I would be more evil, I would make a custom version of curl package that randomly corrupt bytes only served to this malware. Let the malware developper have fun debugging this issue.

Since you are here, how do you handle CPU (or code) graphing on distributed systems? In his case, you do not control which nodes and/or when the query will be executed. Any tips?

This is due to ad arbitrage. Boston.com is not the problem, the ad network behind is. They're just slow to catch it I guess.

'The CPUs are hardware threads on a single core.' hyper-thread is not optimal in CPU intensive application. In this particular case, it affects the variance and mean of your latency. I would recommend to disable it when benchmarki
