I think Deno Inc is possibly in trouble due to lack of adoption. I'm in the Deno Discord and it's rather quiet, with not much of an uptick in user activity from the vaunted 2.0 launch.

You shouldn't have to go back and modify a program's source-code just to find out what some part does when run. That's just plainly obvious to me as a principle. If we have no other option then sometimes we have to use non-

Even if someone exclusively writes software that ends up running on Linux servers, doesn't mean they don't appreciate various nice Mac-exclusive applications as a user during their workday. An example: I love everything about th

IIRC Robin Milner took the decision to pretty much ban any further work after the '97 revision being called "Standard" ML. The work can be done (and some has) but it has to be called something else.

I think of this kind of thing as related to Lock-In. If some proprietary thing I use were to go away permanently, would that be a (perhaps significant) inconvenience, or would it be a disaster? If the former then there's not really loc

Nice job. I'd like to add that surprisingly OCaml can be considered a Unix scripting language because it supports both #! shebang scripts and one-shot evaluations e.g. `ocaml -e 'print_endline "hello"'`. In these mo

I wonder how the colour rendering is. Usually when I configure some editor in a terminal to use specific #rrggbb 24bit colours I like, the end result does not render the same as in non-terminal software (confirmed in the past with an eye-dr

I agree. Even at the time, many of the games that look like this felt like you were being dragged around the track, and just finessing it a bit with the controller input. It's not a good feeling as a player when a game mostly plays its

It goes like this: 1. Software development is a fashion industry. 2. OOP is currently uncool. 3. People who identify as Go programmers don’t want it to be thought of as connected to OOP at all, because then it is uncool by association.

SEGA used to have an advert, "To be this good takes AGES" . Maybe Rails doesn't have a monopoly on having 20 years of continuous development refining it, but that's certainly not the norm.

To do Clojure web development was to noodle around stitching together various libraries piecemeal, i.e. the same thing that everyone who resists proper batteries-included web frameworks does.
