I enjoy intentionally avoiding some uses of the chainsaw by instead piping into "while read -r", and hence getting a loop body with some room to manoeuvre.

I remember seeing this used inside config files for the Caddy webserver. Google seem to like these executable config languages because they've got another open source one ("Starlark") a few notches up in expressivity.

I tried JavaFX recently and within seconds all I could notice was jacked up font rendering. By this point, it should be table-stakes that any GUI framework must always be tapped into identical font rendering to native apps on the host platf

I use both. Terminal tools for quick diffs and Kaleidoscope for larger diffs that I need to read more carefully. It's more readable since the value-add UI elements on and around the text can use fine-grained drawing/layout rather

Can any iSH aficionado provide a step-by-step on how to augment this release version of the app with an additional binary executable? For example the nano text editor. EDIT: Managed it like this: 1. Download this file and put it on iCloud D

I remember hearing something along the lines of the odd typing in SQLite being vestigial from its early days when it was closely aligned with Tcl.

It's quite some years in and traction for backend web development in Swift seems to remain low. There's a small community which is excited by doing that, but in betting terms I doubt the language is going to take off outside of wr

When developers get creative with fully custom GUI drawing then the user is often rewarded with dodgy text rendering.

On the other end of the scale, we have base-1, e.g. scratching a row of 1's on a surface as a tally. I guess base-0 can't really exist, since 0⁰ is undefined.

Yeah, "Fork" as brandished by GitHub Inc is really a misnomer. We already have a verb meaning to duplicate a git repo into your own space: Clone !! So that button action in GitHub's web UI is really "(Cloud) Clone".
