The most clever I've seen so far is to start with this code: http://github.com/mmcgrana/gitcred and then work down the list looking for languages and frameworks of interest.

Yes, that's what "But your point remains" means. It implies it stood at 24.

How accurate was the jargon? When they talked about hacking, or were coding on screen, was it realistic?

I've definitely heard accounts from credible hackers that Zuck is up there. I don't know him personally, but I wouldn't be surprised. I do like Lessig's point that "Zuck's a genius, but so are many". There's a lot of insecurity around pla

This is Microsoft trying to invalidate a patent they don't like, not them "trying to lend a hand". It just happens to overlap with our interests. Which is exactly what they should be doing, as a corporation.

Your university has more resources than you need to do whatever you want to. Identify these and talk your way in. Want to develop something that must be microfabricated? Figure out who runs the cleanroom and contact them. Want to do syn

Yeah, like that -- in some extreme cases, it's impossible without the credential. I bet in most of those cases you could slightly redefine your problem to get around it, though. Surgical devices, for example: you could probably develop the

Dropping out of college is often seen as a marker of huge success and drive. In reality, it's just one path you can pick when answering the question, "given this dream, how can I maximize my chances of realizing it?" This is a little more

Wow, yes. I was on a new computer where I work, and a friend had installed that extension. I didn't know until I read your post, and just figured it was a new feature of HN!

I like how he described raising money for equity as "one step up from human trafficking... they try to own part of you." A different view on a process that's totally normal in the startup world...

Right, and "Eternal Inflation Predicts That Time Will End" totally fails that test. (I don't mean to sound like I'm attacking you -- I agree with you. This is re: the OP)

The problem is that you need to be a domain expert to tell which parts are crazy. It's not a general consumption resource.

arxiv is a preprint database that anyone can submit to. It's the 4chan of scientific papers. Experts in the field often have a hard time making sense of what's going on there. Granted, there is good stuff -- but only if you already know

This is nonsense. It's technologically impossible to enforce this. Global VPN providers will always provide a link out of the US, and peer-to-peer communications will always be secure, no matter what the government wants. If they push

Did they really reference "ninja" developers as an example of title inflation? That must be what it's like to be completely on the outside of tech community in-jokes.

In practice, everything a board does is unanimous. If you respond to you VC board members saying "he is too expensive" with "let's vote on it", the company has WAY deeper problems.

I think YC is an amazing value for the talented hacker in the Midwest looking to break into the Valley. On the other hand, if you're already here and connected into SV, it's really expensive equity.

That's incredible. I know Emotiv invested considerable time and money into "securing" the feed coming off the headset -- and it's broken in less than 24h by an individual (our own daeken!). That send a pretty powerful message about propri

I think people are catching on that building a company that's totally dependent on an third party whose interests aren't intrinsically aligned with yours is dangerous. Sometimes it works out, but it adds a lot of risk. So, "things built on

EEG measures mass synchrony between different areas of the brain. That's extremely hard to control consciously and takes a lot of practice. Even when you can do it, it's a 1-dimensional signal. It's not even clear you want to control
