As the article points out, fewer young men are having sex, but roughly the same number of young women are having sex. I wonder if dating apps (Tinder, Bumble, etc.) are leading women to have sex with a smaller cohort of desirable men. Years

Yes, the housing supply in SF and the peninsula is not good. If you want a new build or lots of space, it is not the place to be.

I guess the idea is that for all the people using MapReduce, most would be better served by a different paradigm than MapReduce. Because in most cases, there's a better paradigm than MapReduce.

We're still in a boom period, where many start-ups/VCs are operating with deep pocket books and instructions to scale fast at any cost. During the next bust, lean will come back in fashion.

The graphic isn't making an argument, it's stating a fact. If you think Uber's valuation is sensible, I don't think this graphic could sway you.

If I'm being cynical, TripleByte left this out on purpose. From what I've heard, they're mainly linking developers up with startup roles that don't pay much more than this (except perhaps in monopoly-money equity). Of co

Bay Area tech companies are also matching this base pay with RSU's, and total compensation should be roughly twice this. If companies are offering that much in St. Louis, sign me up.

I totally agree that 90% of ML problems are engineering problems and having a PhD is not relevant to those cases. My comment was more about the 10%, the more research-oriented parts, which some companies have become very competitive about i

The current "PhD hang up" in tech, if it exists at all, seems to be driven by the competition for ML talent (edit: ML research talent ). To some extent, this is understandable: a typical undergrad CS curriculum is terrible prepar
