Things in the physical world break down sometimes. It’s not a result of some calculated collective choice.

Even granting him that WhatsApp and Instagram were indeed savvy purchases, I think it is fair to say that purchasing nascent competitors is no longer a tool available to Facebook. Both because antitrust scrutiny and because those competitor

It's an odd argument to make in the context of Uber/Lyft, which have indeed "won" by any reasonable definition, and handsomely rewarded it's investors (which should be victims in the overhype / under deliver sc

To some degree you’re making the case for Uber. The fact that you as the consumer can be completely oblivious to local cab driver idiosyncrasies is part of the appeal, as is the completely frictionless payment experience. Ok, cabs work fine

What you describe is timing the market though? Specifically, getting in on a run with confidence you can get out before the crash.

Remember when Covid tests were scarce, and the rich and powerful were getting special access to them? The argument here is that without abundance Covid tests don’t make it to the mediocre everything store.

I don’t really get this. Chess isn’t fun if your opponent is much worse or much better than you. My suggestion is to take advantage of LiChess Zen mode, which hides the ranking of both you and your opponent. This orients me more towards the

It’s baffling to me that managers are given coding screens. As an IC I really don’t want to deal with a manager’s half thought out PR’s slapped together in between meetings. Perhaps some shops give a light meeting load. But “manager code” h

I see a lot defending the researchers involved, talking about how great they are and how none of Facebook’s misdeeds are their fault. At some point though, when data is consistently not shared, and any findings not favorable to the company

I wouldn't really listen to the case on either FB or Twitter unless the person arguing the point is familiar with using the products as an advertiser. That is the core product, after all.

I would be curious to hear what someone who’s written both go and Ruby with a type system (forget what it’s called) is. My view from the outside is that while Rubyists have correctly figured out that being strongly typed is an advantage, it

It's a bit early to say nothing will come of this. Google certainly has deep pockets and an incentive to push for prosecution, and indeed they have alerted the FBI.
