This sounds super toxic - unless you got paid for reading novels.

Second this. This has been exactly my experience. I enjoy it, and feel it’s a net win for me despite all the tradeoffs (comfort, text sharpness, battery life). Selective passthrough for objects like a cup and keyboard would be really great.

My guess is higher manufacturing cost. Assumption: manufacturing batteries in a different form factor is a significant cost driver - a big slice of the manufacturing cost pie (the other being common raw materials). Powerwall is lower volume

Fair point perhaps, but they seem like the only game in town that seem to care about their customers. They’re far from perfect, but to me they are better than the rest. I really want Apple to feel some heat and have worthy competitors, but

Institutionally, Google has the attention span of a Goldfish. Apple will continue to entrench their position as a leader in edge computing. Apple deserve their success; I hope they don’t get complacent once the Pixel division implodes.

It’s exactly like you imagine. The connotation of the word hasn’t changed much. I can confirm the giggling (personal experience).

Why should they? Serious question. What’s their incentive/motivation?

I used to think so too. However, I think the view that “everyone” knows is a distortion. The HN audience knows, but quite a few people in my life (friends, family, coworkers) don’t have a clue.

Brilliant analogy. I find myself increasingly supporting small teams or indie devs. Why? Because it serves me well. Some things are way too complex for small teams to execute (or so I believe), so I will continue to rely on corps to supply

Good suggestion, but I'd say it's an "and", not "instead". Being a barista (customer-facing node, your UI) is a critical piece of understanding the business.
