AWS has a hosted version of Kubernetes and Envoy now, and those are both CNCF projects. Other CNCF projects like NATS and Argo have equivalents on AWS today. Even if they're complex and not one-button click to drop in, the cloud provid

Are you using Monaco for the SQL Editor in the browser? If so, how did you setup the language server for enabling auto-completion/intellisense in the editor?

Oh sweet, thanks for the heads up. We're using Webflow for it so we're not owning the CSS. I'll go in and tweak it though!

Lambda supports "Provisioned Concurrency" which lets you minimize the "jitter" of cold starts. That said, it still isn't perfect. But it's much more predictable latency-wise, and AWS has managed to get cold sta

It depends. Do you need a GPU? If so, your options are more limited. If not, then it's definitely doable!

This should be at the top of this thread! This is huge and fixes my #1 gripe with Lambda -- that managing dependencies is "non-standard" and you can't use tools like Docker. Plus, the 250MB limit is brutal. This is really, re

It's so cool to see these kinds of interactions happen. The size of the internet (and the world) is smaller than you might think! It puts a smile on my face :)

Just turn on "Resist Fingerprinting" in Firefox and you'll find ReCAPTCHA _really_ annoying! I have to solve 3-5 "panes" of a ReCAPTCHA on _every_ page... It's very annoying that preserving privacy comes with t

Yeah, exactly. The proxy is a part of Isomorphic-git. You're basically just using git via HTTPS. The proxy just injects the GitHub oauth token into the request (and handles the CORS problem of GitHub).

It seems like the way Git deals with the filesystem is quite tightly coupled, and that component needs to be swapped out in a browser-based environment. When we looked into this, this was my first instinct as well. Seems like others have tr

We actually use this library to provide the ability to "one-click" share projects in Refinery. It works really well (except in Incognito)! If you go to this[0] link, you'll see a bunch of nodes in a graph. Each one represents

Very much so! But the idea is fascinating. What if the price of platinum was on par with aluminum? What kind of products could exist that simply can out today? This[0] article puts it into perspective just how much metals exist out there. S

If we captured an asteroid we would immediately double or triple the world's supply of metals like platinum. They simply are not plentiful for us on the crust. I like to believe that we can achieve this within our lifetime. Having the

This is honestly really neat to see! Can it run in reverse, ie: take JS code and turn it into S-expressions? If it can then this would be an interesting way to write JS using an S-expression aware editor like emacs!

I've spent a long time trying to speed read and I'm still much slower than where I'd like to be. How are you able to read through 2 pages per minute and still have context on what's going on? Do you have any advice for l

Yes, definitely! Your laptop is generally constrained by how much heat it can push through the heat sink. If you get "lucky" you have a CPU that can remain stable at lower voltages. So it's effectively the same as an "ov

Is this dangerous if the link is able to inject Bash commands as the value of JS_ARG? If so, that's RCE and that's bad. Is it possible to do this using the HTML5 clipboard functions instead?

This is the complexity introduced when applying static types to a vanilla JS codebase, imo. It's easy to get crazy with types in vanilla JS. Adding Typescript forces you to resolve the different types explicitly and it can get hairy. W

I bought a few cheapo UPS units one time. They're only 2-prong (no ground) and the capacity is low. But they were like $20 each with "refurbished" batteries from the vendor. All of my routers are 2-prong so I have one unit fo
