Yes, this isn't OpenBanking, I'm sure the Lloyds app could do that at one point to link to my Halifax account (or others), but it was flaky IIRC (and seems to have disappeared from the app?), this is a separate automatic thing.

Recently Lloyds Banking Group has upgraded their apps so that you can see details from all your accounts with them in every app (some functionality still needs the right brands app though). There's obviously some magic to glue differen

ARM Cortex-A cores also allow unaligned access (MCU cores don't though, and older ARM is weird). There's perhaps a hint if the two most popular CPU architectures have ended up in the forgiving approach to unaligned access, rather

Python has some work to trim bits of it's built in libraries, see for example https://peps.python.org/pep-0594/ and https://docs.python.org/3/deprecations/index.html .

An obvious source for 3rd party code is that it’s a real UNIX System V derivative, so the AT&T code would need to be cleared.

That's talking about the MZ signature at the start of every DOS EXE executable (and therefore every Windows EXE as they have DOS stubs), not this additional use as markers in the DOS memory management code. Which probably is also Mark

That’s not particularly unique, Mac OS and Windows have had compressed memory for years. No fiddling with setting needed either.

Hacker News does weird stuff to post / comment timestamps if a post is resurrected from the second chance pool. Makes both the post and comment look new even though they’re not. Not sure why, it’s kind misleading, I guess they want to

The era of bespoke arcade hardware died in the late 90s really. They couldn’t really keep up with consoles / PC with a declining market. By the early 2000s arcades were mostly console derived, beyond the Sega trio of Naomi (Dreamcast),

The Gamecube was competitive on graphics with PS2 and Xbox. It was the Wii where there console side moved away from keeping up in the cutting edge graphics race. I’m not sure how successful it was, it was outsold by Xbox and PS2. Although t

IIRC Microsoft's internal email still ran on Xenix at the time (until Exchange betas got good enough for internal use c. 1995?), so perhaps more trademarks than some sort of absolute hatred of Unix. Also note that one of the two APIs t

When were you watching? The US All Channel Receiver Act was passed in 1962. Prior to that UHF stations did struggle in the first decade of UHF TV in the US as few TVs had UHF tuners. The situation improved after that as they became standard

Just as a slight extension to this, in the UK VHF was used for the original 405 line (~376i) analogue TV system used for 1936-39 and then 1946 until it turned off in the 1980s, so any ariels still up probably haven't been used for dec

Not from the era, but I suspect serious enterprise stuff (accounts, ERP etc.) in the 80s would generally be on minicomputers and mainframes, so you’re probably getting into stuff like RPG, PL/I, COBOL and myriad other languages that ha

Point some sort of video recorder (like another phone) at the screen then. Tedious to then stitch frames together into one image to share it on Twitter or whatever (or just post the video, everything’s video now because everything sucks).

You probably wouldn’t like 20 year old Notepad’s habit of leaving Unicode BOMs everywhere, or only supporting CRLF line endings. They did improve it a tiny amount circa Windows 10. Does Windows 11 Notepad still choke on loading large files?
