A compact way of encoding nutrition information so that it can be transmitted via a data URI or 2D barcode. The idea is you could include it in a menu or cookbook or recipe website and scan/click it to add to a food-tracking app.

As far as I know all of Apple's framework code is in Objective-C, and there are two big problems standing in the way of converting it to Swift: AppKit and the like still has to support 32-bit apps (and it's apparently challenging

It would be neat if you could enter a tire size (e.g. 165-65R13) and estimate the overall diameter from that. Extra credit: figure out a plausible count of gear teeth for each ratio.

Oops, I was off a little ( https://www.electricbike.com/watt-hours/ ), but what's an order of magnitude between friends? That should be ~20 Wh per mile, so 0.2¢ per mile with some of the pricier electricity in the U

You would think that less food would make me cold, but I've found the opposite. My hypothesis is that my metabolism switched from consuming carbs (with limited energy storage) to fat (with literally weeks worth of energy) and that that

Totally anecdotal, but I want to second the recommendation of a longer fasting period. I switched to a strict-but-not-religious "no food between 7 pm and 11 am" system (with exceptions for weekends and social occasions). Within a

Another data point: a light electric vehicle (ebike, boosted board, etc.) is about 1-2¢ per mile (~100-200 Watt-hours per mile at 10¢ per kilowatt-hour).

The math on walking, at least, seems little off: 210 calories per hour divided by 2.5 miles per hour is 84 calories per mile, which is about 23.5¢ per mile. Also the cost of driving should really use the average fleet fuel economy of a coun

This does smell a bit like a "throw together a lot of high-tech buzzwords" design exercise more than a real product. First, series hybrids are generally a bad idea for road-going vehicles, where a mechanical link is a) pretty stra

It may seem like a minor nitpick, but the title should be "How Cheap Can Electric Cars Get?". It's a bit like equating "Digital Camera" with "DSLR", and ignoring camera phones as a source of disruption.

One big advantage to composting is that little bits of food clinging to the container are a feature, not a bug. So it saves a lot of water and (if hot water is needed) energy over washing and recycling paper or (with PLA and such) plastic.
