I think you're right. I've been thinking lots about what exactly it is that I'm averse to doing. The coding part - yep that's fine - I've worked with game engines before, I'm familiar with Unity and have dabbl

EDIT: The more I contemplate this, the more silly it sounds. A trap of nostalgia (for a time I wasn't even born in!). ---- Yeah true. The world really is wonderful, yet I always get the impression that science was much more respected

FYI Steam also has a mobile authenticator as part of the Steam app now; I remember seeing a banner for it pop up in Steam news not too long ago: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8625-WRA...

Can you give some examples of what you'd consider red flags in a site's password reset procedure? I'd be really curious; this is an area that I've thought about as a "necessary but horrible-for-security thing".

I'd agree with this too; at least to an extent -- especially given Oracle's recent actions wrt. to Android/Java. Now that you mention Intellectual Property, I wonder.... Does the fact that .NET is used in big enterprises and

I think the status of the development tools has/had a lot to do with it. As a .NET developer, it's always been unclear until a few years ago as to how you could get the free tools and what you could do with them. I'm specifi

I'd always wondered about this. Planar always just seemed a horrible way to try and think about a screen. What made it faster? Is it just that the hardware could be simpler? Curious to know.

Nostaliga trip! My parents had bought me a Commodore 16 for Christmas, maybe 85 or 86. I remember us hooking it up to the old Rank Arena telly that we had in our back room and then not knowing what to do. I remember we put a tape in and p

I remember playing around with overclocking my old Pentium 4 and how it would boot fine into Windows, but then you'd run Prime95 on it and the benchmark would start failing because the FPU was returning incorrect results.

What impresses me about Apple is how little seems to leak from them, given the size of the company now.

I agree with this. I can't fathom how the controller looks similar, except that the buttons are the same colour, or close. The shape is totally different. I don't get it.

I find many of these photos anxiety-provoking to look at. I can't explain why though. Anyone got any ideas? It's almost like I find them 'odd' but to a really really extreme degree. This fascinates me. I wonder what p

I wonder why we need transparent screens though. I see AR as a subset of VR, not a superset of it. Once you've solved the field-of-view, screen resolution and (I'd also argue) dynamic range/colour accuracy of VR, you add a

It's strange, but when I think about it, DK1 was a much more positive 'product-y' experience for me than DK2 was. Perhaps part of that is that DK1 was my first VR headset, so much of the initial awe factor had worn off by th

Exactly. Gear VR is their 'VR for everyone' product. It's fantastic for that. They're already well on their way down that path.

Had a friend get burnt bad by this. Specifically, he got two GTX 970s to run in SLI, but the motherboard didn't end up supporting SLI. Neither him, nor the PC shop that built the machine for him, picked up on that. It didn't help

I had my last gaming rig built at a small PC store. Not a big chain or online or anything, just one where I could walk in, sit down and talk to the guy about general components, pick all the pieces I wanted and then have them order them in

So much this. The fear of failure in cooking is a bit like the fear of failure in maths ("I'm just bad at maths") or fearing technology ("I'd never be good at computers!"). I do get it. It feels extremely was
