In addition Ada allows dynamically-sized arrays to be allocated on the stack and to be returned from a function. Efficient implement of the latter requires rather non-trivial support on the compiler side and C/C++/Rust have nothin

This reminded me of embedded Java project that I worked 20 years ago. The VM had only 10MB of RAM and properly dealing with out-of-memory exceptions was a must. The most effective strategy was to preallocate like 200K array. Then on any mem

I looked at using SQLite with Wordpress for sites I maintain. In theory Wordpress core is quite DB-agnostic and according to random blogs MySQL could work. But plugins use so much MySQL-specific features that it was hopeless.

That does not ban the interpreters. It prevents interpretation of downloaded code. But as long the sources to be interpreted are bundled with app, it is OK at least from that section.

If JS code is few event listeners to verify/massage the data to submit to the server, then the answer is yes. But for more complex web pages the answer is now. For example, React on web and similar framework may not be feasible without

I have seen a lot of projects that use interfaces in C++ or Java just to be able to mock the tests. This puzzled me. If it is known that the there will be exactly 2 implementations of the interface, one real one and one for mocking, then do

The second stage of New Glenn runs on liquid oxygen and hydrogen, not on liquid oxygen and RP-1 as Falcon. It makes it much harder to reuse simply due to much bigger fuel tanks and significantly less tolerance to overheating . I doubt Blue

I have Intel MacBook Pro and the behavior of trackpad under Windows in BootCamp is just terrible while in a Windows VM or on a remote Windows desktop it is almost as good as on Mac. So I doubt it is in firmware.

As a student I learned Turbo Pascal around 1991. Most of the problems with the original language were fixed and Borland provided enough extensions to use the language to program hardware drivers under DOS. Then on my first job I learned C+

One does not need 1000 years to evolve. One generation where soy intolerance leads to death through famine/malnutrition is enough. That is why cultural differences are so important to take into account.

A notion of simulation implies control and, as such, free will and time flow. And since we do not know about the latter, the notion of simulation itself is a pure speculation.

Forget about simulation. We do not have answers to basic questions how consciousness works in real world. For example, we have no idea how what we perceive as time flow appears, we do not know why many/most people feel that they have f

A USB serial dongle plus any of those netbook-like or smaller form factor laptops should do the trick. I suppose one can get that used for below 100 USD unless one needs a dongle that does proper 12 volts. That alone may cost over 100 USD.

The standard library of C++ assumes exceptions and that dictates code style that, even if one assumes infallible allocations and disable exceptions, one gets suboptimal code. So even with exceptions off one pays the price either in the form

What is C++ tradition? Is it that one does not pay for a feature unless one uses it? In practice C++ broke with that with exceptions and RTTI. Even Rust does adhere to it since its standard library assumes infallible allocations making one
