If Google didn't send a C&D, I'd say there's a good chance that another company would. Don't forget that pesky download button.

Where did I say that ad-free YouTube was pushing this too far? I think both Microsoft and Google have plenty of ways to sort that out. The download button, on the other hand, is a completely different kettle of fish. If people start using M

Microsoft has plenty to lose here. Push this too far and they can easily alienate the media partners they need for all sorts of things (like providing content for Windows tablets and Windows Phone).

They're not done yet. According to my G+ stream, Amit Singhal has announced that Hangouts is also going to be the future of Google Voice. And apparently you can already choose to get SMS messages from Hangouts when you are idle. A less impo

There are lots of reasons for Microsoft to comply with these demands. At least one reason for each major media company Microsoft currently partners with (or wants to in the future)... They, after all, are the ones most invested in these par

ToS violations may not be "the" reason, but it is enough of a reason to force Google's hand, whether or not they have other reasons. Exactly how long do you think, say, Viacom woulds tolerate a high-profile, name-brand YouTube app that bloc

Very true. Personally, I wish there were a way for apps to specify optional permissions (ones an app can run without, but might require for specific features) as an alternative to required ones. To take a simple example, I've noticed that m

You know, Samsung did the exact same thing last year with the S3 and Flipboard. I believe that, at the time, some people had similar concerns. In retrospect, though, that deal turned out great for Android. Samsung paying for exclusivity hel

I don't think Google dropped the ball on active digitizers, other OEMs did. From what I remember, at least two other companies (HTC and Lenovo) also tried active digitizers on tablets. And soon after that (right around the original Note), G

Samsung implemented multi-window exactly as Google wanted: opt-in instead of opt-out or forced. I highly doubt the Android team is unhappy about that. Several top Google apps support it (Chrome, Gmail, Maps, Talk and YouTube, judging from m
