Traffic pricing for CloudFront is similar to standard traffic pricing on AWS (e.g. for EC2 instances). They charge you also per request and user origin a bit extra, so in some cases maybe even more expensive.

As a German it is hard to believe that such things do not exist yet in other countries. We have a standardized protocol called FinTS which is implemented by most banks. This results in a huge amount of desktop and mobile applications for ba

In the aspect of scrum the daily is good defined, I don't think you need to experiment about what needs to be talked about. It is a one time a day meeting where everyone gives a glimpse over what he has done and how this may affect oth

One I found a few days ago (self hosted): https://github.com/posativ/isso Would be perfect if it supports an external database and not only sqlite.

I think the largest disadvantage is, that you won't get real high availability. Promoting a slave to a master is done in a second. Restarting the master can take some time (especially when it crashed previously). There is also the prob

It is so much slower because it uses another API which requires multiple requests to get the same data.

On which OS is this a problem? On Windows it is working fine for me (with 4K).

Same for me, it is displayed in my Google Now feed. Sometimes false positives, but it works since over a year.

Interesting, is there a variant which uses chrome? This would also eliminate most scraping protections.

I'm curious what others use to scrape modern (javascript based) web applications. The old web (html and links) work fine with tools like Scrapy, but for modern applications which rely on javascript this does no longer work. For my last

I'm really curious why the backend is in that state since so long. Today everything is scalable but HN performance is limited to a single process? And the complexity shouldn't be too high to migrate it to another framework/..

We are storing database backups and static assets (e.g. images in mails) on S3.

S3 is the reference here, not Cloudflare.

On thing I learned here. When something seems horribly wrong, check HN first, it may be "global" problem.

I really liked it. But when trying to add it to my HipChat group it failed to upload. Why? S3 outage, what an irony.

I think you misunderstood the local storage. It is not intended to permanently store data. It's a volatile storage like RAM.

I think most people rely on EBS and are happy with it. Sure it depends on the use case, but I think it works for most use cases.

It's not just a RAID that can fail. And everyone who uses AWS should expect failures. You should build your infrastructure to handle such failures well.

Thank you! And Zalando as a bit company behind it is even better. Are you going to use this as is in production, or do you have an internal version it?

When running PostgreSQL in any cloud provider most of your data is served from network. I would say performance varies, but quite good. In comparison to magnetic disks much better. Most workloads you should be able to handle with network mo

Is this anywhere downloadable? Looks really impressive. It would be really cool if this could be controlled with two apps. One on a smartphone in the box, one as a cardboard monitor. Or is it already like that?

We just switched over to centralized logging two years ago. All hosts are configured to only keep small logfiles and rolling them over every few megabytes. Filling up the centralized logging is nearly impossible when good monitoring is done

It is in fact all messages. They can simply not deliver the first message and force a resend record that mesaage. Afterwards force again a resend with the old encryption key and deliver that mesaage. No one would get a notification.

Alternatively you can also just use $_ENV['APP_XYZ'] instead of the actual value in your config.php and then use environment variable way to get the container/pod configured.
