Well, it's been nice having our US friends with us on the internet, and it's going to be quieter without them. So long and the best of luck with that government of yours.

Another idea: if the MPAA and RIAA break the internet, let's break them. How about a petition of people who pledge not to go to the movies or buy mainstream music if SOPA passes?

Redhat's response to the DLJ retirement: https://access.redhat.com/kb/docs/DOC-64765 Basically they have bought a binary code license (BCL) which gets around the problem. Does this apply to Fedora too?

The usual gripe - my company is based in New Zealand, and it's well nigh impossible to open a US bank account so we can't use Stripe or Wepay. I'd love to know how many of PayPal's merchants are non-resident, it's the only reason we use the

Contact the buyer, and find out WHY they bought it. Personally I can't see why anyone would spend money on this (no offence intended), but perhaps they have a use case I (and possibly you) haven't considered. You can then optimize your mark

The recaptcha didn't have any instructions, and seemed to supply a lot of numbers and words. Were you supposed to give a particular one? I had little difficulty with the others, but the lack of instructions might bias the results against re

Quite possibly. The Twitter debacle tainted RoR's reputation (fairly or not), and there is a concern that Ruby might turn out to be a flash in the pan. Django/Python is just as effective, and enterprises feel far more comfortable with Pyth

Chrome has a wee bug that is incredibly annoying once you notice it, and it's still not fixed in V15. To reproduce, go to any web page with a confirm dialog: 1. Think of a secret number between one and ten (or higher if you are a patient pe

Exactly. Case in point: Google. Imagine if they started pulling stunts like this - the goodwill they depend on would evaporate overnight, the whole "I don't mind Google owning all my data because they aren't evil" balance would become paran

Python, Java and Go are all "open" languages and don't limit you to Appengine, and Google allows you to download your data without restriction. The only lock-in is the APIs, and even there the datastore API is the only one that isn't built

Google Appengine (and presumably Azure) takes you some of the way there - it removes all the sysadmin side of things, and solves the scaling problem at the same time. You still need to choose a framework etc, but it is a compelling choice f

This is why you demand a percentage up front, before you write a line of code. If they aren't happy with this, walk away - they aren't sincere and you're walking away from a world of hurt. Personally this is rule 1.
