There are different methods of security, one where you assume the user is trusted but that the programs are not and one where you assume the user and the programs are not trusted. iOS is the second version. Linux with flatpak and SELinux is

Ideally, the OS should be an immutable image and the user partition completely seperate. Than a factory reset simply has to nuke the user partition and place a fresh template over the top. I can understand how something not designed could h

This is outdated info. The latest iPad Pro has the M1 chip, exactly the same as the MacBook. And it comes in 8/16gb ram. The magic keyboard accessory apple sells for the iPad also turns it in to the same form factor as a laptop. You ve

The iPad Pro and magic keyboard costs more than the MacBook Air. So apple would be doing pretty well if they could get MacBook users to buy an iPad.

They have some awesome tools built in to the tax form. The asset calculator lets you put in stuff like “I paid this much for an office table” and it tells you that the expected lifetime is 10 years and it will automatically insert the deduc

I’d argue that seeing 1. 1. 1. Is actually better than seeing them increasing but being out of order. Less of a hack and while reading them unformatted you just think of it like a HTML OL with list items. Or of the 1 as a keyword meaning or

I think easy or hard are not even appropriate terms. As a business owner it is not easy or hard, it just costs an amount of money. If you pay enough money, you can get the result. You just have to decide how much a disaster costs and how mu

I’ll happily trade some privacy for security. I live in an apartment building which has security cameras in every public space. Sure, technically they could build a record of when I leave and enter, but I can also report people who leave tr

Probably for legal reasons. Firefox exists so chrome is not a monopoly and stricter government action is not taken. Google doesn’t give money to control Firefox, they just need it to exist.

Copilot is not a search engine. It synthesises code so it is unlicensed.
104.
by foxpurple 5y ago
No. You could use copilot to generate code you do understand and double check it before committing. It’s similar to just copying and pasting from stack overflow.

You can be that harsh when talking about controlling a piece of fast moving machinery around other people. You very easily have the ability to kill people and if you aren’t able to properly operate a car then you should be able to in public

The solution is cameras on the streets paired with phone usage detection then if you get caught, your license is instantly terminated and you have to reapply for it.

Discord is in between casual and power user. Once you are on 5 groups and using many of the features you wouldn’t want it any other way.

The GUI was built in the era of windows XP and Skype. And you have to host your own server. Nothing can compete with discord where you just press a button to create a “server” and send out a link. It all just works and it costs a fortune to

It’s almost impossible for them to compete with discord at this point. Discord is so good it has raised the bar far beyond what foss developers can make in their free time.

I don’t give a shit about “value delivered” or how much I “deserve”. I care about how nice my life will be. If I can live a nicer life by moving and taking a pay cut and a large CoL cut then I certainly will take it.

by foxpurple 5y ago
Steam also does this. Massively different prices for different countries.

by foxpurple 5y ago
That’s irrelevant. It’s up to you to make a choice about what is the best value and suits you best. Rather than paying a high CoL on principal even though you would be better off somewhere else and on a pay cut.
