Is plastic vs paper bags really that clear-cut an issue? I get the recycle/decompose angle, but I would have thought that paper bags would use much more energy (embedded + transport), release many more chemicals, and cause much more de

I imagine eminent-domain type costs are less of an issue in Russia, but I distances are much larger there. Beyond the Jilin-Summa, are there a lot of medium-length routes in Russia? I thought the hyperloop didn't work that well for lon

The series was amazing. Could not stop clicking through. I was sorely let down at the end when there was no more to read. Also when it didn't turn into an open-source high-performing P2P video conferencing app :)

The os.path is not a great example, but imagine a loop where inside the body you mutate some state of an instance and then directly access it. Compare the following with the os.path example: for animal in circus.animals: circus.ne

Not sure how this timeit is running, but there are two things going on: Local name lookups are done as array indexing; whereas global lookups are done as cascading dictionary lookups. And the attribute lookup also is a dictionary search. On

Wouldn't a 1998 prize year mean that their major work was done in the 60s and 70s? The average age of Nobel laureates is ~60, which would mean many could be in their 80s now. [1] https://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes&

Do you have a source for GMO improving yield and nutrition? I thought most GM was Roundup Ready and similar, designed to be herbicide resistant. I've heard of e.g., Golden Rice being more nutritious with beta carotene, but was under th
