That’s definitely a more interesting proposition to me (and a bit different to the parent comments). It might well result in less repetitive background chatter & stock comments from side characters without taking focus away from the pri

Yes - I want to maintain quality, even at the expense of flexibility. I would rather there were 1, 2 or 3 high quality paths through a RPG style game or quest than hundreds, thousands, or infinite ones that are 'meh'. (edited to e

Exactly this. I want plot/character driven games like RPGs to be a curated & carefully designed, plotted, and paced experience. I want speech & narrative to be scripted! It means someone sat down and thought about the experienc

I think this is an area where SD is actually fairly suitable - not for storing the actual OS for the console, but certainly for storing data files. They're mostly read only other than saves, which should be miniscule amounts of I/

I wholeheartedly agree with the idea that you shouldn't use microSD for / on your SBC! I've been running a m.2 drive on a Pi5 for a few months now (using the Pimoroni HAT), and it's a game changer for how well it perform

What I see a lot of too is poor quality hardware causing crashes - eg poor quality power supplies, actually faulty memory, memory that is marginal at the speeds that it's sold at (eg fine at the standard JEDEC speeds, but fails at the

I’ve found crashing in games using NVIDIA’s DX12 driver is one of the most reliable indicators of CPU/RAM instability in gaming PCs, so doesn’t surprise me! Lots of people’s gaming PCs (self built and otherwise) are very crashy - there

I don't disagree with the article's main sentiment. You don't always need AWS. I advocate quite a bit for self-hosting when it makes sense. But if you're going to manage your own servers, you need to do it right. This ar

ECS is terribly underrated, I agree. Most people don’t need kubernetes, and ECS + Terraform is very approachable and easy to get started with, especially with Fargate for compute.

Absolutely this. It is a case of personal preference. Removing or having creature comforts like easy refactoring, being able to do code aware search like go to definition, etc won't make you a better or worse programmer. It might make

Yeah - this is a big factor. My home internet gets ~7ms to London (I'm in the UK, London is the important IXP. My test is to one of my ISP's routers at LINX). 5G is about 40ms. When you add load, my home internet stays at about

Work’s London office is in Angel, it’s a wonderful part of London. Absolutely tons of niche food options of just about every kind you can think of. I make it a personal mission to eat somewhere different every time I visit.

Each of the console manufacturers operates their own CDNs, typically. Valve do too on PC. They often have some kind of proof-of-ownership (like a license ticket) required to download game data or updates, too.

It’s also an plausible anti-leaks measure - if the gamecard contains everything needed to play the game, the game can easily leak early when the cards are going to retail. If a day1 patch is required, then it can’t leak until that patch is

I have one of these ASRock Rack servers, and I can confirm ECC works on it - I have 128GB of ECC DDR5 with a Ryzen 9 7900. I wish more motherboards bothered to validate ECC working - it's a nice benefit in an affordable platform.

How have you found the Voodoo 3 emulation? I have found it a bit ropey in 86box/PCem - but I find voodoo 1 or 2 works really well.

Whole system emulation like 86box does a much better job of emulating older hardware and OSes - I use it quite a bit for DOS/Win3.11/Win9x era stuff.
