Dava Sobel’s Longitude is a great book on this topic.

Seems like it’s an inertial navigation system [0] but they’re using some quantum device for precision. [0] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inertial_navigation_system

From the video in the article, the warp and pattern are preset on the loom by each team and they use the shorn wool for the weft.

what's the source you're quoting here?

Not necessarily. The SCD series can have auto calibration turned off. You take it outside once and baseline that to 400ppm. The drift on the sensor is rated very low (+-50 ppm over the sensor’s lifetime). This is what I do with my SCD30.

Shelly makes smart relays that you can put behind a standard plug.

The SCD30 I have quotes a drift of +-50 ppm over its lifetime. https://sensirion.com/media/documents/4EAF6AF8/61652C3C/Sens...

I don’t enable automatic calibration on my SCD30 because the algorithm basically assumes that the lowest ppm in the last 7 days is 400ppm and baselines to that. I just took mine outside once, set that to 400ppm and haven’t recalibrated it s

Yep. I do the exact same thing with my SCD30 and an ESP32 with HomeSpan to bridge it to HomeKit.

If you want to DIY it, Aranet4 uses a Senseair Sunrise which can be had for 1/4 of the price on Digikey [0]. Senseair has Arduino samples on GitHub [1]. I personally have an SCD30 monitor which claims the same accuracy and like it. The

Personally, I would probably try to teach in some capacity. I have this pipe dream of retiring from FT SWE and teaching high school CS sometime in the future.

I have the lowest end Roomba purchased in 2019 that I block from internet access at my router. I can’t use the app but there’s a button on the vacuum I can use to start it. Works enough for me shrug .

Oooooh VS Code does this too and it's really annoying. I don't use it enough to figure out how to disable though.

My unsolicited opinion: I like it, I especially like the new dark theme, but I can't use it full time until some features in the old UI make it to the new one (vertical splitting tool windows, primarily).

> You’ll also be able to connect to the U3224KB via Mini DisplayPort 2.1 Interesting tidbit. DP 2.0+ allows for much higher resolutions without needing DSC. The Pro Display XDR for example uses DP 1.4 with DSC to drive the 6k resolution.

I'm very interested in this. I've been looking at the XDR for a high-DPI, >27" display but can't bring myself to fork over $5k for it. Hopefully this is significantly cheaper.

You mean on a Kagi result page? I just type the new query into the search bar on the Kagi page instead. Agreed it’s not ideal.

Use the OpenSearch specification [0]. Most search engines and even websites support it. It’s how, for example, you can search YouTube directly in the FF address bar. [0] https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web

There’s a Kagi safari extension that will redirect any searches to Kagi. I still set my default to DDG because I think the extension intercepts after the request has been sent. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/kagi-se

Google is extremely frustrating in this regard. I keep my TOTP in 1Password so that I can have it on multiple devices. When I tried to login in on a new device, I used the TOTP code. Google then wanted me to click approve in the YouTube app

I think they rotated it. The new one isn’t in crt.sh yet, but for posterity’s sake this is the old one https://crt.sh/?q=DA26F72EACAC75CCEE794140441020848697AEB0

Yeah it looks like they rotated it. It used to be this one: https://crt.sh/?q=DA26F72EACAC75CCEE794140441020848697AEB0 The new one isn’t even indexed on crt.sh yet.
