Thanks for the perspective. Understanding how things are perceived by others is an incredibly hard thing to do.

As someone who worked on an Open Source project for years with no compensation, adding sustainable funding to it was very motivating. Money is a very weird thing, but getting money for the continued existence of your work is fantastic valid

It's the expectation of the user that this is hacking. Inserting the HTML into a non-Intro user's email wouldn't make sense. But sense the user is expecting that data, and for it to be validated, spoofing it becomes much more

Yea, that. The python bit was just a side note. I went ahead and removed the python part, as it didn't really contribute to the message.

I just wanted to point out how poisonous our community is. It's something that I've been struggling with for a long time, and trying to slowly change. The fact that people read this article, and don't feel the need to mention

I think you missed the point. He was poking fun at the current culture by calling him a "content creator". I saw this talk in person, and it was obvious in that context.

I'm using it non-production things, and have had a similar experience. I'm in the SFO data center, and I've lost connectivity to the machine at least 5 times in the past month.

Did the NYTimes just break a story about one of their own employees leaving? The tone of the article is really interesting.

Imagine if something like this allowed them to quit their jobs, so that they did need this money, and work on open source projects full time. That's the goal.

Why do you assume Heroku wants you to know who they're tipping? Or that it's a positive thing for us to know? Perhaps they are just trying to help the community and don't need credit for it, other than the indication that they are giving.
