I was in the middle of what I thought could have been an incident the other day. While debugging, with two others at my desk, I was approached no less than 3 other times by groups of people just wanting to say, introduce themselves etc. I t

I don't do TDD. Tests help me write code. I write the code, iterate on it, then write tests to confirm the assumption I made in the code. The act of writing then uncovers misunderstandings I had, careless bugs etc. When the tests are c

For long meetings I've dreamed about having a taxi style fare meter running on the screen. It would add up all the wages of the people present and give a running total for the speaker so they know the (minimum) cost of the meeting.

One of these shows an electric train. That's interesting because the first electric train was demonstrated in 1879.

Just listened to a bit of this. As a Brit listening, what accent? She's completely audible with only slight inflections on some words.

The main thing that happened here was bandwidth. Back then you'd be lucky if someone had the 2mbps needed for a reasonable HD call. The underlying technology has not really changed since then though.

A rider posted on Reddit yesterday how much they made by not striking on valentine's day. They made ~£70 from 10 deliveries. In their area at least that strike seemed to more than double the amount they got on average per delivery. ht

I think I got my wires crossed with ChromiumOS which when I last read the docs seemed to suggest that Google cloud platform was required. I now can't find those specific docs either so I retract my statement.

Tangential, but I tried to build chromium the other day but stopped when it said it required access to Google cloud platform to actually build it. If something requires a proprietary build system, does it matter that it's open source?

My generation drank, smoked, took drugs, hung around in large intimidating groups... I'm not exactly sure being hooked on smart phones is worse.

In the UK I don't even remember any other option than joined up handwriting. I'm pretty sure it is still the only option in schools. Writing in block letters was seen as juvenile. I presume that's not the case in other parts

Worms. Maybe bacteria and viruses can get everywhere regardless, but larger things like worm eggs are not going to travel so easily. Washing your hands can definitely help with the reduction in transmission of worm eggs.

In the UK there is no swipe. Everyone has mobile card readers. Even tiny food trucks in the middle of nowhere have mobile card readers.

Not just you. Was disappointed to see the use of the 2x2 rather than a 2x3 and also no indents in the base. The structures made look precarious at best.

I have quite fond memories of working on ISDN video conferencing in the not so distant past. Video calls are quite possible on 64kbps (qcif, g728 and h264). Though it was also possible to use a whole PRI and make a call using 2Mbps.

I wonder if it would be easier to switch to say a part swappable battery, rather than try and make the whole thing swappable. Something smaller, but with a reasonable range, say 50 miles, might allow for a smaller ejection port on the car a
