Well said. I couldn't agree more. I have always loathed California. It all seems so fake and far reaching, while NYC, as you say, is brutally honest in what it presents: lead, follow, or get out of the way.

NYC is actually seeing an uptick in companies abandoning the insanity of Silicon Valley and the West coast and moving to NYC and places east. And, what with NY state's recent incentives to start a company there, I would rather be based

I'm dubious myself. What about their Mermaid special? Someone would have some concrete evidence by now of giant sharks and/or mermaids besides grainy footage. I take this stuff with the same grain of salt I take extraterrestrials:

To be honest, I've never desired to be well off. I'm a minimalist by nature and the less I have to worry about, the better. I make enough to do what I need and want to do. I'm content with what I have. I am fortunate enough t

Facebook failing or never existing? How could this be a bad thing? Google not being as dominant or Yahoo getting their technology and yet also not being dominant? I fail to see how these are bad. I use technology from neither company myself

My wife and I worked out a plan: we moved very close to her parents who agreed to watch our children for three days a week. I work M-F days only, no nights, no weekends. My wife works Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Together we make enough t

I'm referring to employers requiring more than 40 hours, not valid personal choice. I'm all for you "choosing" to work extra, with the caveat of double time on the paycheck.

I agree with deleting the emails. The US is woefully behind Europe in this regard. I would like to see a French-style work week, with the added goodness of France's recent email/phone call law forbidding employers from contacting

Funny you should mention GNUStep/WindowMaker... absolutely my favourite WM. I agree most of the rest are bloated and wonky. Gnome has removed almost all of its menus and bells and whistles and it's largely unusable now. KDE is the

I have toyed with the idea of using hosts files instead, but what bothers me is the lack of daily updates. Granted, there is so much bad crap out there that it's impossible to avoid it all. Another thing I want to do is find a router t

Care to elaborate on your claim? It's one thing to claim it's FUD, but yet another to refute it.

I like... good for this dad. I have three kids and while I won't be traveling to Syria anytime soon, it's nice to see positive reinforcement of non-violence today. Most parents simply turn their children loose with whatever device

Ghostery is owned by a company that has ties to ad networks. I am, by principle, opposed to ads in Web content, so I want to use a product that loathes the idea as much as I do. I have the right to browse the Internet without being tracked,

If this guy is guilty, and it can be definitively proven, hang him, but this situation is worrying on a number of levels. What if someone hates you, has access to your mobile whilst you sleep, takes it, commits a crime with it, and then ret

For me, the Internet is largely unusable without adblock at the very least. I removed Ghostery and started using Disconnect instead. It does a much better job methinks. In addition to this on Firefox at least I invoke about:config and make

Not this tripe again... Please, no one really cares about the makeup of companies except those people who will never work for them anyway. It's like what's happening in the UK at the moment. Everything is so politically correct. M
