I think that cities are vastly biased towards the iPhone. There's just lots of pro-iPhone people in the cities; mac users (note there are only a few mac stores in Japan and they are all in big cities), Japanese people who are more "worldly

I wish it were that straightforward :) Selling it and migrating it to the buyer would be a pretty draining experience. I'd rather spend time on my other project :) That and, none of the customer subscriptions are transferrable. The new bu

Indeed. I actually run a (quite profitable) social media app that works with Twitter. But based on the last 6 months of API changes, I'm going to shut it down. I'd rather direct my energy towards something that I have 100% control of, rath

I have tried advertising on FusionAds. Here is my limited assessment. First of all, this is what the campaign traffic looked like for the duration of the campaign. I did a one week "burst" campaign and did not run any other (significant)

it's not really "investing" though, is it. it's giving people money. there is no exchange of equity involved in the kickstarter transaction (nor is it allowed, according to their TOS, I think).

Personally I'm a scp/ssh command-line user. The last time I used FTP as part of my regular workflow was many years ago. However, that is one beautiful-looking app and one beautiful website.

It's certainly a tumultuous time if you've based your business on a "feature" of Twitter that it could feasibly replicate itself. http://tweetup.com launched just yesterday proclaiming their advertising value-add to the Twitter ecosyste

there are two possibilities: 1) it's possible to self-sponsor as long as you can show a certain amount of income from part time work or, in Patrick's case, internet earnings. 2) your visa is not tied to your employer. you can get a 3 year

maybe I've misunderstood, but this seems to advocate mixing inline HTML and php logic - isn't that a huge step backwards in terms of web software architecture? I thought we were all using the MVC model by now... My head just hurts thinking

I fail to see how this has anything to do with Rackspace. They are there to provide infrastructure, not to support you on an application level. Rackspace's responsibility is to keep the infrastructure running and help with backups if you ar

Honestly speaking, I think you might have a bit of a chicken and egg problem with getting started. I like the idea of your app and it's something I could use, but since you're asking your customers to hard code stuff into their application

I stopped doing consulting and lived off my savings whilst building my first SaaS app. It took a few months to get ramen profitable and I had zero income the whole time during development. Looking back, that was actually kinda stupid of m
