I have a pretty severe back injury - double pars fracture and significant spondylolisthesis from an accident (not a car accident). For many years i was in incredible pain, but it just kept going, sometimes getting a lot worse. When this ha

It’s not going to happen. The EU is desperate to stop being in fourth place in technology and will do absolutely nothing to put a damper on this. It’s their only hope to get out of the rut.

That’s how they talk about it publicly. Internally I can attest that the companies for two of the three you list are not like that internally at all. It’s all marketing, outwardly focused.

During the first ever layoff at $company in 2001, part of the dotcom implosion, one of my coworkers who got whacked complained that it didn’t make sense as he was one of the companies biggest boosters and believers. It was supremely interes

A lot of people are still thinking of Knuth's comment as being about just finding the slow path or function and making it faster. What Knuth has talked about, however, and why any senior engineer who cares about performance has either

Most of the gRPC implementations force buffering of the whole response for large unary responses. They are not really written by people who care about performance. It’s dumb because the protobuf binary marshaled format is perfectly designed

Ultra Ethernet will do almost nothing. It’s a rubber stamped version of Broadcom’s design and Marcel/Cisco/etc will just add it to their asics. Remains to be seen if SpecrumX will or Connectix. If not, none of it matters. These ch

Sometimes you need assembly. There's nothing shocking here other than Go doing this well when it's a gap for most languages.

Just to pick nits, the important thing is basically no secret-dependent { branches, loop bounds checks, memory accesses }. This is a lot more complex than simple "constant time."

No one holds off a launch of a hardware device. Logistics production etc are all lined up and underway long before two weeks out. Two weeks out you’ve already shipped boxes to retailers a month prior.

The C output is absolutely terrible. I cannot fathom an experienced C coder who has found otherwise for anything non trivial. The code is full of things like return from stack, poor buffer size discipline, etc.
