Very interesting. I've held off on showing HN my recent projects for a different reason: I'm just not that proud of them. Lately my projects have all been very quick, niche money-makers that almost leave me with a bad taste in my mouth - I'

I find it to be wrong that somebody leaked classified documents. I think it's more complicated than that. "Following orders" is not an acceptable defense, and for that reason I think leaking classified documents is not only sometimes just

No kidding - and I can't honestly believe that current employees and contractors would be prevented from reading the leaks for fear of "possessing" said information. Burying their head in the sand. It's asinine. EDIT: In case it wasn't clea

An interesting problem. Despite my objections to their actions (which I spelled out in a different thread) I'm not really upset with Amazon. I will probably not buy from them for a while, but I know that won't really affect their bottom lin

To a certain extent, I actually agree with your point. I think it is important for governments to be able to operate within varying degrees of secrecy, and I think that despite Assange's insistence to the contrary, some of the Wikileaks doc

As I noted in a different reply - I agree with you, but I think the wrapping paper is very important for a large segment of their audience. Believe it or not, I know many people who grew up with computers and yet don't know what a torrent i

Interesting point. I currently do some work for a different federal government which involves some security clearance. I may need US security clearance in the future, and the conflict is something I hadn't considered until now. However (and

I like this idea and will begin seeding their torrents post-haste. However, how do we make sure that the people who need to see the information find the torrents?

Hmmm. I'm frustrated, because I think the author is making a very important point in a very, very poor way. Gender issues are important. They are important everywhere and they are especially important in industries like ours where the gende

I'm fairly new around here (lurked for a couple months, finally made an account last week) but one of the things that I really like about HN is the no frills approach. It would be extremely easy for a community of hackers to get carried awa

I agree with what others have said - if I were you, I would go for #2, and if that fails, #4. If you like your co-workers and the other non-codebase related aspects of the job, it is worth trying to make it work, but only if you can get the

I'm really interested in startup marketing for hackers and have been considering a similar writing project... I don't want to step on your toes at all but I'd love to bounce some ideas around. My e-mail is foobar at fooandbar.net :)
