Not sure if you’re being deliberately obtuse, but a signing key means nothing by itself. What exactly do you think is being attested TO? Thats right: that the user can’t do what they want with their own device. Obviously your key wouldn’t b

Then you’re just replacing one DRM cartel with another. What would even be the criteria for approval? Pinky promise to not let the end user have full control of their own device? That’s all “integrity” really means in practice. Don’t be foo

If a “category of claims” has shared causal structure, then the category’s track record absolutely does tell you something about the next claim in it. It’s not arbitrary. Alien UFOs, Chem-Trails, and Flat Earth are obviously all generated f

It may feel like you’re designing a bridge, but in reality you’re just asking a worker to do that too, and rubber stamping it when the drawings look reasonable. One day you’ll be asked why it collapsed and realize you don’t actually underst

It’s one specific low-level abstraction , which is well defined: the primitive building blocks a higher level abstraction is built on and oblivious to. Zig’s comptime is the primitive. Sum types, generics, etc. are things you can build on

It’s precisely not syntactic ceremony. It’s normal Zig running at compile time in which you can program types as values. In Rust (and most other languages) all you get is a highly abstract DSL: Foo<T> where for<‘a> T: Bar<‘

Low-level doesn’t mean more information, it means more explicit. In Zig, that means being able to use the language itself to express type level computations. Instead of Rust’s an angle brackets and trait constraints and derive syntax. Or C+

Didn’t say that. The friends in question clearly think it is. My point more generally was about people who publicly talk about $X being society-destroying while materially enabling $X for a paycheck.

You're missing the point. They're just lamenting the contrast between what their friends say (fuck tech, no kings) and what they spend their workweek in service of. It's not complicated: if these friends would take a non-soci

yes All the superficial filler leaves a linkedin flavored taste in my mouth. I’d prefer to hear the author’s own voice and thoughts without noise injected to give the illusion of polish.

Interestingly, it still took the EU to force them to actually adopt it (and open it up for apps to use) in iOS 26.

Wild how many people take “care about your craft” as a condescending personal insult. Maybe it’s hard to hear once the job’s beaten it out of you. And it’s about to get a lot worse.

The professor is obviously not advising naive absolutism. He’s saying care deeply about your craft, and good judgement will follow from that. Actually caring is what gives someone the itch to go back and improve things, versus happily calli

The article doesn’t say or imply that whatsoever. That a feminist art project or collective has to be defined in opposition to something else is entirely your own framing. This is where your mind goes when you read “feminist,” which revea

Because sometimes I do want multiple things on a screen, and in that case I want the windows to tile, not float?

The point is to dedicate maximum screen real estate to the primary thing you’re working on. I tile within one monitor when I legitimately want to see things side by side, but I certainly don’t want firefox permanently taking up screen space

Ah, an important detail is that I use 3 monitors. Most workspaces are a fullscreen browser or some other app to the left, fullscreen editor in the center, tmux on the right. I still use tiling within a monitor to view email side-by-side wit
