According to this Data Engineering interview (beginning around 8m in) the improvements begin with moving from the JVM which has a latency impact. But the real improvement is that fsync on a file handle puts in a barrier in the FS. RedPanda

I can't find the benchmarks so it's not possible to know what they measured, how they measured it, and if it's a relevant measurement. Skimming the repository it doesn't seem to be an unreasonable claim. C++ with Seastar

I have some friends/colleagues who use kotlin in personal projects and they enjoy it. But I've never heard them talk about those features. And they certainly aren't enjoying it now because of soon-to-be-released features. But

Same experience here. JDK11 and beyond added some more enthusiasm to base Java. If Loom lands I think a lot of people will also lose interest in Kotlin as well (because AIUI a big draw for Kotlin is the async story).

It is very realistic when I copy a json dump into an editor and then do a key stroke to format it. My beloved vim doesn't fair so we'll. VScode does very well on this.

I didn't even realize shared hosting providers still existed. I thought everything was virtualized and containerized. But indeed, sites like Gandi.net sell shared hosting.
