Can you please point out what about Buckaroo's (i.e., the author's) solution is wrong? I take it, his version of Either is copied from the neither project [1], so the destructor of the union is: ~Either() { if(isLeft) {

Ad #1: And bring down the whole process? Seriously, no, this is about the worse advice ever. Unless you are writing a tiny binary that works all on its own and on a single job/item, this is about as close as you can get to a mortal sin

I only "partially agree": I often wrap entire sections of a program in a try block. This way, it can catch any unexpected errors, report them, and put the program back into a manageable state where it can keep running. So I thin

Well, as you point out, the probability of not hitting a valid CVV this way is non-zero, or 0.672% - if using R: choose(5000,0)*0.999^(5000-0)*0.001^0 But that means, by brute forcing, while you should crack at least one ca

How big is the chance that you select the candidate who happens to know all solutions (e.g. by learning them by heart recently for the dozens of interviews he's planning on doing), but is not a good technical fit? My estimate is: prett

I for one am not so convinced GitHub is likely to be around for another decade or two. But whatever, let's just pretend that Distill can always find a free hosting solution, that is not so unlikely. Maybe that's good enough? Re.

How does this provide IF ratings? Probably irrelevant for industry, but publishing in academia is all about IF, no matter how bad and corrupt one might think it is. And what about long-term stability/presence. Most top journals and the

Quite some overlap with others here, but to add some of my own favorites: - The Shock Doctrine by N. Klein - The Anarchist Banker by F. Pessoa - Collapse by J. Diamond - Thinking, Fast and Slow by D. Kahneman - a few books by Noam Chomsky E

Totally agree, but RF's are more related to "CNN-ish problems" (image classification and...?), not RNNs, or generally, any graphical sequence model. EDIT: to clarify: "j/k" with the thing in parenthesis ;-)

At 50% occupation, alleged 8 beds, and 28/bed=224/day (underestimating, as the single private beds are more expensive). 15days/month is €3360 per month, double that at full occupation. Those numbers might sound reasonable in

First, income in the US for most jobs has stagnated, inflation adjusted. Second, goods and services that can be produced cheaply due to technical advances get cheaper. This did not affect education, and medicine probably only got more expe

Yes, I've noticed for years that Go gets heavily used in web service-oriented startups with many concurrent users (plus, its easier to pick up than Erlang :-)). But what I would really hope to see is Go being used for anything else t

You should compare the actual syntax and constructs. I agree that JS and LISP certainly are as far apart as anything else, and Python is as "functional" as any other imperative language. But Scala indeed is very similar to (1) OCa

Good point, but I think that doesn't explain the "why" of the graphs, this observation only explains the fact. The "why", then, in my (also non-expert) opinion, is (once again) globalization: We produce cheap electr

As a bioinformatician, I can tell you: no. Hardly anywhere you have that concurrency need. You have a few clients only, typically, but with very highly parallel work-loads (as opposed to concurrent ones). Go is a bad for there.

I wasn't asking about that. Rather, I was referring to applying casual modeling (like recommending, A/B testing, churn prediction, etc) to cases where [I believe] using a randomized experiment to test the causality seems peculiar.
