Ok that’s pretty hilarious, but what’s the point, is this just like playing battlebots for TF2 bot authors? (But if it was couldn’t they set up a purpose-built server for that?)

Don’t really play multiplayer games anymore, but back when I did a lot there was a “vote kick”/“vote ban” feature that people used to get rid of the cheaters instantly sniping everyone from across the map, it wasn’t like they were very

maybe this is different in SF, but NYC taxi/uber drivers never say anything besides confirming you are the actual person and the destination, and maybe asking where you want to be dropped off

How are you getting into shows without presenting ID for age? Every (well, every legal...) venue I've been to in NYC cards to see if you are 21.

You need to show one to get a drinking wristband anyways (and avoid the hand Xs), or into any 16+, 18+, or 21+ show.

Serde? Clap? It’s not the objectively best crate, just one you like a lot and think is well designed. Both of those are “wow, this is way better and yet simpler than every language I’ve used before” crates for me.

Low level (L4) at big tech can clear $400k if the stock appreciates, otherwise L5 (“senior”, but really just mid level) will easily be there. Higher level ICs can make 7 figures.

Stock in public companies is effectively equivalent to cash, so what’s the difference? Sell on vest and buy index funds or anything you want.

This article appears to be complaining that laborers are taking a job that compensates more. Laborers are not the property of their employers (“academia” here). It’s good when someone takes a higher-paying job, it will drive up wages to rep

The "energy" here is the collective set of opinions of hackers, which seems to be tipping heavily towards TikTok (TikTok.app/TikTok.apk) being banned. My belief is that the government should not ban software, and that we shou

I don't think it being free software is necessary. There is plenty of anger when Apple blocks some non-free software from the App Store, like the whole Epic/Fortnite situation, or many other cases with smaller indie developers. It

I don't use TikTok at all, but what's with so much support for the government banning a piece of software in hacker communities? Where's the hacker energy from when the government declared encryption a "munition"?

If you are turning across a curbside bike lane then you need to yield. A bike lane is a traffic lane, you need to wait for it to be clear before turning, and yes, you need to check your shoulder on roads with bike lanes.

That seems fine! The end goal isn't just to climb the ladder, if people are happier with more personal freedom at the cost of a promotion, it's fine! Let them do that.

You are implying that a company has any ownership whatsoever over its workforce. It does not. The workers are not “theirs”, and they are presumably employed under an “at-will” agreement. Companies and owners sure do get upset when it’s the

Don’t use the term “poaching” to refer to workers deciding to work somewhere else. Workers aren’t owned by their employers, like the king’s deer. https://medium.com/42hire-don-t-panic-just-hire/stop-calling...

There’s not really anything wrong with the SwiftUI API. The implementation is just terrible, especially on macOS. Jetpack Compose is a similar API on Android, except the implementation is good, so apps using it are good.
