What is special in starlark that makes it hermetic and deterministic? Scala is deterministic. If you call functions that have side effects and nondeterministic behavior you can fall outside the comforts of determinism. But you can stumble u

LLMs are sold by corporate overlords to corporate overlords. They all know this is what it will be used for. The writing was on the wall that the main use will be spam and phishing. You can say the creators did not intend on this purpose, b

In this case it is not bat shit. It is rather smart to offload this useless feature in the client. The requirements are probably that normal users should not see “bad content”. If users can break the censorship it is maybe not the chat oper

Live reloading (recompiling per method, editing values in your live runtime image) has been with UI development since since the beginning of GUIs. Smalltalk is great. The 90s with C++ and Java broke with history. Thankfully the rise of web

Minecraft has been rebuilt multiple times (Java, PS3, Bedrock) and is still not done. I have not seen the code bases from the inside but I would be very surprised if not a lot of it has been touched in recent years. I firmly believe any sen

When I review code I never think I am there to make people better devs. I’m reviewing the code because I don’t want shit code merged into the code base I am responsible for operating. I’m going to be the one debugging that. Don’t just merge

Its a huge time sink if you get bogged down building an engine. It’s not if you just write the code you need for your game. 99% of people getting stuck on it have no real desire to make an actual game.

You need to agree on the problem, not the problem areas. Then someone proposes a solution for the problem, and you review the code to see that it solves the problem. If the solution is not bad and the problem is big, you can let them merge

Good code and bad code are not objective values. I have worked with many people that spend days replacing good code with bad code because they are ”paying down technical debt”.
