I had a recent trip to Japan, wanted to exchange some yen before I left, so I called around to a bunch of local banks and got to experience some exquisitely terrible phone systems. The worst, and this is a new one to me: you get a 30 second

I've lived in Albuquerque and even the worst, absolute worst part of Albuquerque, the part of town the locals call "the war zone", was cleaner and safer-feeling than a huge chunk of SF. My truck did get broken into, though...

Look at any HN discussion which touches on education. Observe the dozens who come out of the woodwork to comment on how useless e.g. literature classes are, and how students would be so much better served by Lerning 2 Code. These people wou

I agree that Twitter is awful, and I agree that there's no better man to absolutely drive it into the ground and pound it into irrelevance and bankruptcy than Elon Musk.

Yeah, I'd previously thought about dairy goats and decided there's just too much damn milking. Given some pasture land, I'd choose to raise sheep for meat. It's not a huge amount of income, but it's a lot less work

I'm a bit doubtful about that math... A Nubian goat will apparently produce an average of 2000 pounds per lactation, which averages 284 days. Since gestation averages 149 days, you're getting less than 2000 pounds per year per goa
