I'm also self-hosting on a different domain. The actual software stack is easy. It's dealing with the blacklists that's hard -- I submitted a ticket to spamhaus, but of course there's been no response after weeks. I gues

Well, for a long time, you would just get an MVP up and then collect as many users as possible by offering free accounts, and if you were somewhat aligned with something Facebook or Google was vaguely interested in, you'd get acquired

A decade+ of acquisition as the default "exit" (and the idea that you have to be driving for an "exit" in the first place) made people straight up forget how companies normally work, apparently.

Usenet. What's that, nobody's posting? Well... post something. Yes, spam, but it turns out to be trivial to filter.

IRCv3 ticks a lot of boxes server-side; you get chat history, user accounts (you can even log with the same nick from multiple clients), replies, and a bunch of other stuff. Some clients show link/image previews. I think the #1 thing t

Do you store any milk in the fridge or freezer? I've been trying to find good glass containers for that and coming up pretty short.

My mother has a casserole dish which slips into a rattan sleeve with little leather lifting handles. You can then carry it to the table, pass it around, etc. without burning your hands. It's held up for my entire lifetime so the design

Is this Nova Scotia? I ask because I've often wondered over Stan Rogers' song "Guysborough Train" which seems to be about a planned but never completed railroad line.

But the fact is that you could get a decent find into Plan 9 in a day's work. Hell, you could probably just compile some existing Go version of find without any changes. Trying to get Plan 9-style namespaces into Linux is not nearly so

I got used to `du | grep` after using Plan 9 a lot and still do it on Linux, but yeah really I think Plan 9 fans have had a tendency to ossify the pragmatic minimalism of the Bell Labs guys into a sort of cultishness... there's no reas
