Yes, good point - perhaps, because of Daniel's age and inexperience, he didn't know about this social cue and kept on pushing it when he should have read between the lines. I'm sure we've all done dumb stuff in our youth we'd like to forget

I cannot tell you divisive that clock is. It's a constant topic for internal discussion; personally I hate it. I can't even read an analog clock.

I'm tickled to see elitists getting out elited(I'm making up words now, but you get my drift).

The problem is Twilio provides no way of billing end users. In this case it comes down to a micropayments problem (which still haven't been solved sufficiently). So you either have to charge up-front for a monthly service fee of a reasonabl

Thibaut, are they all advertising based? The major pain point for me is payment processing.

Wait? What? Which engineers are getting paid $200K? If that's the ballpark I must have been playing a different sport for the last 6 years. Anyhow, I've also had a swig of the kool-aid over those years and is now the basis of my new-found f

The HTML markup is atrocious and you just seem to be pawning the work off to another existing web service which does exactly the same thing you do ( http://pdfmyurl.com/ )? Am I missing something?

Yep, cool - it just means a lot of empty div structures (n * width) to contain the samples... I assumed JS as it would have been more efficient.

Nice effect. I think a bit of JS is being used to create the DIV structure, but that's not important. It could also be improved a bit: you could remove the shading gradient from the Coke can mask PNG, and render the shading using an CSS gra

For those of us who have been working on side-project competitors for a few months this is a worrying prediction, and quite probably correct. Can HN name any niches that they feel should be filled with a similar product?

I think the bit outstanding question is about scale. The comet connection requires 2 keep-alive HTTP connections to make a full-duplex connection. So obviously a single socket connection doubles the number of users a single box can handle -

This actually is the idea I've been working towards for the last couple of months. The backend is mostly sorted, but it would take another month or so to get a working product out the door. Does HN think this is still a viable idea if the

I think answering the question in regards to the US is by far the easiest. In other countries I've lived in and researched it in it's been a very difficult process, as most processors are US based.

I'm a BBC World Wide employee, so the usual disclaimer applies: my opinion isn't that of my employer. I've been a critic of the Glow library since I learnt about it, not because it's not good code (it is a solid enough framework), but becau
