I've found a good use case is feature switches. If something goes flakey in production I can quickly disable a feature without editing files, and the full process around that.

I ask a lot of questions: The Uber training, apparently, is that driver's should only ever rate their customers a 5, or a 1. That's it. A customer is either great and a 5, or an asshat and a 1.

I'd question your assumption on SaaS vs one-off payment. Remember he's selling to large orgs. They have set budgets (often use it or lose it next year), and getting approval for a $400 payment might be easier than recurring paymen
