Feel you on the entry-level features making people worried that Apple is prosumer-izing their baby. I worry about that sometimes. Yes, Max is amazing. Thanks for sharing your instruments! Sidewinder looks particularly cool. I also got into

I think we both have a lot of room for being wrong! There seem to be no reliable sources for DAW market share, and I imagine all of these companies consider it in their interests to keep the number of active users of their software to thems

What leads you to believe that Logic has been shedding users? What little information I can find on this suggests that Logic has in fact been growing slightly & has significant market share. I also think it’s a huge driver of Mac sales.

I work with Ruby every day at work & have always been curious about Crystal. This was a very helpful dive into some overarching concepts & small details. Thanks for sharing!

They're already very good at it—I myself have been using OR-Tools's CP-SAT solver for a large bin packing problem at work (via https://github.com/ankane/or-tools-ruby ) & Chat-GPT was a big help working ou

Pretty cool! FWIW, this is a glockenspiel or bells ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glockenspiel ), not a xylophone ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xylophone ).

This is just a list of Sevish’s tools (the Scale Workshop is really useful for things like building scales for use in Max, _way_ easier to work with than Scala). Thank you for sharing the MTS-ESP Suite, though! I love the idea of a single p

Yes to this! For many purposes, Csound is hard to beat. It has some truly incredible sounding opcodes, and it’s capable of sample-accurate performance in a way that Pd or Max can’t really achieve, even with the Max scheduler in overdrive. O

I have been working on a Rails app at a rapidly growing organization for the past 6 years and I consider myself very lucky to be able to do so. Shopify, GitHub, and Stripe (to name some of the more prominent companies) all regularly contrib

Yeah, agreed that this I s an insane price point given that (unless I’m missing something) there’s only one preamp and it only works for an inline headphone mic.

This is not a serious attempt to understand or appreciate this music in any way. Four hours is not “a lot” of listening by any stretch of the imagination, and the author does not delve into any of the aspects of this music that make it uniq

Thanks so much for your work on Postico. I use it every day and recommend it highly. It’s fast, stable, and a Mac app through and through (increasingly a rarity).

Apple Music’s best feature for me is its real focus on building up your own library. On top of that, it integrates seamlessly with iTunes in the Cloud. Using the same app, I can stream anything from my iTunes library, which includes a decen

I strongly agree with this. I would, however, like to call out one TV program here in the U.S. that I think comes much closer to approximating the experience of “reading a 5,000-word article”: PBS NewsHour. It’s great, completely free and a

There’s no question that Apple has not extended iMessage support to Android because it’s in their business interest. However, it is a bit rich for Hiroshi Lockheimer, who is obviously massively biased, to claim the Apple could “just adopt R

As a web developer, I, too, have had moments fixing a Safari bug that reminded me of dealing with IE in the past. But only passing moments, and I don’t blame Safari. Supporting multiple browsers is a uniquely annoying aspect of web developm

The BBC & the CBC produce a lot of dramatic radio with full casts & music & sound effects, but not all that much science fiction - see BBC Radio 4 Extra, for example. CBC’s Vanishing Point is the most recent dedicated speculati

We switched over from a Bourbon-based SASS framework at my work to Tailwind several months ago & it has been fantastic. I was very negative about it at first - “isn’t this just a crappier version of inline styles?” - but I’m a convert.
