This makes me extremely skeptical of the study. At best, it says something about people who are whizzes at programming competitions, and certainly not "Expert programmers" in general.

Everyone here would benefit from giving this a read, if you’re in management or an implementer. My favorite quotes: > It is not just members of the community who wishes for “just two more features.” We have a committee with 300+ members

I wonder if probability theory comes into a valuation like that. Something like, what is the expected value of some whale collector’s valuation. I’d love to be a fly on the wall during whatever auction would be run.

Although I get where you’re coming from, I disagree with the assertion that this makes it “not really ASCII art”. At the end of the day modern terminal emulators use a graphics API at one point to render characters on the screen. You woul

Good lord, that takes grit to say the least. I would love to hear some war stories from this time, unfortunately there are no anecdotes or any of his dis-proofs on his blog (at least that I could find).

I disagree with this sentiment. Linus' answer not only describes the immediate bug, but also gives enough detail and context that other , similar potential bugs related to the scheduler may be avoided after having read the entire pos

The Unity portion of this comment is very out of date. UnityScript ("some JS variant") and Boo ("some weird Python style thing") had support dropped years ago.

Clearly , these (minor) grammar issues are predicated on an ESL background. This package is very respectable and relevant to the #1 post on HN as of this morning [1]. Why disrespect the OP in the light of legitimate engineering? [1] htt

I think the core issue is that people consume/view Git commit messages in different ways depending on their needs. Realistically, most people today use Github/Gitlab/Sourcehut/whatever web git gui along with the Git CLI

I agree, context is everything. Some commenters here and in the OP argue that there should be no dot at the end because git commit messages are used as the subject of emails. This is of course true in the context of e.g. the linux kernel
