Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. I have three small children and had no idea of the dangers these batteries pose. We seem to be changing button batteries every couple of weeks or so, they are in a number of sound books and toy

If you are ok using a ‘higher level’ serverless provider, vercel offers first class support for running and debugging serverless functions locally, in an environment which closely mirrors their production environment (which I believe is mos

As mentioned by others, the daily wallpapers supplied by bing are very nice. They aren’t 4k, but the 1080p images still look good on my 4k monitors. There are a number of scripts out there which download the ‘picture of the day’ and store i

Not sure I agree with the prediction: > My prediction is that Xamarin will come up with its own GUI abstraction framework in future, along the lines of SWT. It is a compromise; but one which delivers a lot of value to developers who wan

Yep, saw that, just wondering if there are any insights into why it won't work for WP7.5, in case it is a work in progress or a complete no-hope.

Great library, going to give it a shot in one of my upcoming projects. Quick question - I just tried the demo on IE on a Nokia Lumia 710 running WP 7.5 Mango, and there was no difference between A and B. Do you have any idea why FastClick m

Brilliant site. One suggestion - can you add a 'Random' or 'Shuffle' button?

You forgot: 4. Framework / Library size. I'm turned off by many JS MV* Libraries due to their larger size. Backbone is very small and lightweight - perfect for mobile web apps.

An alternative, completely server-side implementation: http://adaptive-images.com/ It takes the approach of setting a cookie when the page first loads with the viewport size, determined through media queries. Every request to the server t

Awesome project. One of those things I can see will be really useful. One suggestion: make it responsive. The design lends itself well to mobilising: shrink the map view, put the columns into tabs, etc. This would be an even better resource

I've been musing the same thing for a little while now. I think Zepto, Backbone, RequireJS and HTML5 Mobile Boilerplate makes a solid foundation for a mobile app framework, much more lightweight than jQuery Mobile, which is IMO unusable for

Whilst I agree with the general principle of not working yourself to death (nobody ever says on their death bed, 'I wish I'd spent more time in the office'), I think the author of this piece is missing something crucial. I regularly work mo

I would also like to find out how this is planned. Ideally a Chrome-style auto-update would be great. The bane of mobile web application development is dealing with the lowest common denominator - developing for multiple Android versions is

I recently had a problem with a cross domain AJAX call to a third party web service which requires a JSESSIONID cookie to be present in each request for session management. On the face of it, CORS supports this by setting withCredentials: t

I was in a similar position to you a little while back. I found the annotated source of the TODO app on DocumentCloud a good start. I then found it was worth spending the money on Recipes with Backbone by Nick Gauthier & Chris Strom. h

This looks fantastic, especially with the integration with HTML5BP. Awesome work! Just wondering if you considered using RequireJS instead of namespacing? Backbone plays quite nicely with RequireJS if you use James Burke's version which has

Totally the opposite for me. In the dark days of coding on Windows, I used to invert the entire screen's gamma ramp just to have white text on dark background. I found that switching back to black on white caused my eyes to squint due to th

It would be interesting to see a split of 'London, UK' and 'Rest of UK' as I reckon there will be a big percentage of UK HN readers in London. Coming from Bristol myself, it would be good to see what the split is outside of London. There is
