Given he has been a longtime libertarian/GOP, he probably is using elitists as a euphemism for liberals. And, he isn't wrong about Vail in that sense.

Solid start. I'd strongly suggest adding some Bayesian modeling books; start with Gelman. If you look at the academic lineage of many of these authors, it will also help you understand how they get stuck into little biases.

I think the concern here is how easy it is to conflate "fake" with "things we disagree with", thus turning a need for journalist integrity into a partisan play. Given the willingness of major news outlets to quote polls

You are actually citing that WaPo propOrnot piece? You trust independent, anonymous experts to tell you what is legit? There is zero fact checking in that thing. You might as well be sourcing 4chan. Talk about playing to people's biase

Nope, that isn't a good start. I'm looking for examples that show the US has a bad working environment. You providing a wiki link to "unions in the USA" does not address the question. What is bad about our labor environm

No, we have a problem with wage growth. That isn't to say that the types of jobs have a huge impact. If McD paid $25/hr with full benefits, nobody would give a shit. Kind of hard to make that sustainable without clawing back real

This is such an elegant synopsis. I've been saying this to my HRC-supporter friends, many are horrified that I could vote for Trump. A few are no longer friends (by their choice, screaming at me from the top of their lungs that I voted

Kind of a small sample size, right? I guess I'm hesitant to change the political dynamic of a nation based on just that.

Maybe. My point isn't partisan, but more along the lines of "you don't know how this will play out." I'm all for a popular vote, but I don't think you're going to see a swing to the left necessarily.

Changing from electoral college to pop vote also means the nature of campaigning will change. California, for example, has a huge population of Republicans and now their vote would matter. I don't think Trump did any non military focus
