From the title alone, I knew it was going to be Gelman. I guess I have strong priors.

Yup, agreed. For the uninitiated, this refers to your account showing a positive balance based on a sale that occurred but has not settled. Seems like a great app... just have to get some money in there without telling them my bank creds...

Yeah, I thought this too. I pinged them for API access; I get the feeling they are looking for application partners and building an ecosystem. Kind of an interesting biz model.

Not saying you don't have a point, but there are a lot of ways to lose your ass in this world and I don't see Robinhood as a particularly egregious case that requires any more warning than Fidelity (which will jam fees). Unless yo

Meh. I'm not from Philly and I'd be pretty damn tempted to decapitate it as well (if I wasn't so busy that I passed by without even noticing it).

"Boiled down - can people who are part of such a skewed system really produce unbiased studies and theories about the system?" Those who are part of the 99% exhibit a bias as well. This is the nature of political economy arguments

A devastating loss indeed. Has cause of death been released? She was so young. EDIT: Surprised by the downvotes. I'm leaving it, regardless. The question does not imply any lack of respect for the deceased. Those who think it does are

So, Snowden uncovered the government's willingness to violate civil liberties, yet should have still expected his civil liberties to not be violated if he blew the whistle? Ugh. Bunch of assholes we got running this place.

Kinda funny. I was about 10 and after the button was hit, it went on speaker and dispatch was listening for ~10 minutes trying to figure out what was going on. Second time was less funny.

Sure, but first you go put all your wealth into AMZN for the next ten years and don't touch it. Think you're any better off from Walmart over that time frame? Valuations are fickle at best. At some point, money needs to be made.

If consumers were insensitive to that hike, yes. Problem is they aren't, which is why Amazon has to keep reinvesting and operating on that razor thin margin. That strategy is as bad for individual companies as it is for the macroeconom

Call me old fashioned, but I "value" profitable companies more than unprofitable ones. Amazon had a net loss of $241m last year[1], while Walmart had a net profit of $16b[2]. [1] http://finance.yahoo.com/q/is?
