If you need confidence in the operation of a function you make code testable. If you need it to execute in Repl you need to make code Replable and I am not joking.

Very eye-opening article. Though, the mechanism that brought us into this position is a choice of the mass of humans. Not an accident, not an alien invasion.

NVidia won? Not for me. I prefer Intel offerings. Open and Linux friendly. I even hope they would release the next gen Risc-V boards with Intel Graphics.

Hahaha. I do not use many electron apps, only VScodium+Positron I would be fine on Risc-V, still there are many overlooked alternatives.

This is not a problem. We are not running supercomputers at home. We need to be able Math software on modern open hardware We need to be able to program with a better assembly We need to be able to have predictable code generation from our

Still, no consumer based RV23 mini-ITX or micro-ATX or ATX form factor devices. And Orange PI 2 has a GFX blob issue.

I think Max's brain was not polluted with terror and showed trust in his tools. Today many devs (and not prograamers) are always suspicious, and terrified on the potential of something going wrong because someone will point a finger ev

I don't understand why Minix3 is not developed any more. I thought with Risc-V it would see a renewed interest.

I decided to look into it the last 10 days. I'm very impressed. What I would like to see, but maybe I'm asking too much and it is not possible, is zero-cost interoperability with Go (not only C). Still, it is a remarkable piece of

Golang is an experiment like all the other languages. They took some tradeoffs. I think it is an acceptable set of tradeoffs and design principles.

I agree with you on the Universal API. But It cannot cover any case, unfortunately. But the micro-kernel can help here by translating the NxM problem to N+M by reusing device servers, which can have a universal API and can be written in any

The XKCD is wrong in the microkernel concept since the micro-kernel translates the NxM problem to N+M. But I agree, that vendors do not make it easy to foster new OSes.

There are many innovative OSes that are killed by the lack of Device Drivers. As a community we must find a way for tackling this issue. Micro-Kernels are a solution where one can run different OSes but they will reuse the same device drive
