Are you saying those details cannot be resolved or are you just talking about ECMO as it exists today?

What do you think will be more expensive: wasted water and electricity or this proposed tax?

It's not clear to me why it would be a fool's errand to make it more portable, cheaper, etc. Was the iron lung[0] only useful as a bridge? Was there no reason to invent implantable pacemakers? If you can enable a person to live a

That's not the underlying reasoning and I have heard very clear arguments. The argument goes something like 'the extremely impactful event has never occurred in the past so our risk assessment is very vulnerable to large magnitude

The person you're replying to is referring to zoning and codes which preclude the economical construction of such rooming houses / SROs. These are decided on by elected government officials which very much means we decided.

I don't think the book and others with similar thoughts suggest anything like being paralyzed with fear, so we should be OK here.

I think there are a number of people waking up to the level of concern that you need to put on unbounded risks. See the popular book, The Black Swan. To throw out these large but improbable risks is taking a large part out of these distribu

It looks like Gwern's guide is for finding something which you know already exists, rather than looking for something which may not.

This could leave you flat-footed when the economy picks back up or you realize it was a 'blip', so it's not an easy/clear decision to make because you see one or two numbers going down.

And the precursor to the African clawed frogs test was the Rabbit test[0] where a rabbit would be injected with human urine. Unfortunately for the rabbits, the test required killing them to examine their ovaries. [0] https://en.w

There are inherent costs associated with selling/buying used property and this is especially true for housing. Renting does not have the same inherent overhead when switching, only the common overheads (moving physical possessions, cha

Do you think monopolies like PG&E in California are well-regulated? If not, could you tell me why this isn't due to systemic difficulties in setting up a well-regulated monopoly? EDIT: I should put my thesis in here: It is easy for

We want to benefit from efficiencies of scale while decreasing the size of every company's "moat". That is, consumers would benefit most if it was easy to start a competitor if/when the top bank/retailer/etc tr

This is the second time you've claimed that this thread is some sort of conspiracy. For myself (and maybe the others), your responses jumped one step beyond reasonable. Because someone used animal cruelty to describe factory farming,

The .NET libraries make it easy to use the default thread pool (a single pool). If other libraries are similar, then I wouldn't consider this a complete straw man.

For some reason, it doesnt surprise me that Amazon is not very committed to hiring the kind of people that want to live in New York. While they're probably not enjoying their PR, I can't believe this is their biggest lost.

I'm pretty unconvinced. I don't see any reason to believe your line of reasoning; that the original poster is a hyperbolic vegan. Do you have anything beyond your assertion?

Some people dont value FICO scores and so theirs are likely to be lower. This would fall outside of the only two models that you proposed. It requires cultural difference which some people value highly. If you cannot accept the FICO as non-

A slice of bread weighs about an ounce or 28 grams. There is less than 3 grams of protein in a slice of bread. About 80% of the protein is gluten which gives 2.5 grams of gluten per slice. So at the lowest exposure level, 1 milligram, this
