Not to question Mitchell's generous contributions, but most of his libraries I've seen were convenience wrappers and other creature comforts (eg. go-getter), not foundational work. Happy to be corrected.

To be fair to GitHub, there has been slow but constant progress over the last few years. I would love it to get at some point to where Critique was when I left Google (almost 10 years ago).

We the Slavs have more than that for drinking and hangover. Far fewer for corruption, though it was rampant in the 90s in my home country (Poland) and reportedly still is in some other places.

Oh that’s why they hired the Twitch guy. Now it all makes sense.

Deus vult! Jokes aside, coming from a very Catholic country (Poland) I think nobody really cares what the Pope thinks or says about coding.

I think "infrastructure as a code". I've seen this multiple times already, eg. [here]( https://tenesys.io/en/technology/infrastructure-as-a-code-ia... ).

> 4,000 beta participants > 7,500 secrets created That would suggest less than two secrets created by an average participant. Sounds about right, I personally created exactly one before realizing that I get absolutely nothing on top o

I think my team looked into that, among good few others. There is a decent number of tools that would work better for dev/product teams, but if you want to have one solution for the whole company, the list is shorter. We're curren

I think both tools could use some serious UX love. The processes folks introduce around them - that's a different topic obviously. You can enforce atrocious processes with Trello or ClickUp but I find these much less bad.

Can they acquire Asana and merge it with Jira so that I can dislike one project management tool instead of two?

Yup, the correct term would be "broken features".

Ansible is a different system, with a subtly different use case. It generally manages a preexisting list of targets. In that sense, there is some initial "state" in Ansible, this being your inventory. Terraform (or CloudFormation,

Not sure if it’s misuse. Versioning your state is not a terrible idea in general. Using Git for that is kinda natural for reasonably sized states. I personally would store the state in a different repo than the infra definitions, though.

You’d just use Git as fancy storage with some extra features. You could use a separate repo for that. But I agree that the gain from that is not crazy.

I agree that the lack of native state and/or secret encryption is a serious limitation. In Terraform’s defense, it’s often the fault of providers and/or APIs.

Presumably one would want to store the state in Git to get contextual diffing “for free” and possibly to avoid a dependency on another system.

If you wanted to store the state in Git, you would probably want to at least encrypt secrets. This is not something that Terraform supports now (theory is that this is to push their commercial offering) but it’s one of the main feature requ

The username kinda suggests an Eastern European ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilya_Muromets ) so I read the post as a personal opinion that the bias exists.

Indeed we do have that insight. We actually spoke with many people intimately involved in the process.

Bigger players naturally take longer to reach decisions for projects that are not their own, so it's only natural to see some caution on their end. It would be premature to announce anything at this point but I can just say that "

Many of these discussions seem to devolve into calling names, throwing ad hominems or even darker stuff like threats of symbolic or physical violence. Being on the receiving end of all that in relation to the fork makes me wish we can indee

I think at this point we exhausted arguments on both sides of the debate. I think that agreeing to disagree and moving on is a better alternative to competing on ad hominems.
