Plugging, my own site, https://calcula.tech . It's not meant to compete with something like Atlas but I like to think it's great for napkin math, even though it's still quite early in development.

I've started learning Elixir over the week and I can't see myself using Python for scripting again. They're very different languages but th experience feels similar, except I vastly prefer Elixir

I find that for most of these use cases I'd rather just make a Vim macro. I already know Vim, so I don't have to learn and remember a new language. For cases where it needs to be automated, Awk is probably the best tool. I don

The subject is about why the stack overflow most loved programming languages tend to be recent. The article argues that because developers don't like legacy code, their impressions of languages used in legacy codebases are tainted. The

I mean, if I've never had to maintain legacy code then my opinions on any given language are completely uninfluenced by the "honeymoon period" factor that the article is about, yeah?

I've never had to maintain legacy code before, and I would prefer any language on the green list to any language on the brown list (right tool for the job aside), aside from Python and maybe C#. I know there are plenty of students and

I don't think it insinuates a causal relationship. I interpret "30% more likely" as the same as "associated with a 30% increase," which is what the article claims.

More accurately, middle aged people who get less than 6 hours of sleep a night are 30% more likely to get dementia. I'd expect that people who get less than 6 hours of sleep are also more stressed and less health concious though.

Honestly, in terms of features, not much. The biggest issue personally is that screen sharing on Linux with multiple monitors doesn't work well, but AFAIK that's a chromium thing. Another thing I'd really like is for twitch s

Speaking as an 18 y.o. doing my first year college online, I wouldn't have made it through quarantine without Discord. I've a server with my high school friends and since Discord lowers the barrier to join a voice call so much it&

Anecdotally, my sister and I are both ADHDers with significant hypermobility. My mom has a double jointed thumb but no ADHD, and my dad has (undiagnosed but likely) ADHD but no double joints.

ADHD gets referenced here frequently as a result of too much screentime/social media etc. However, the hypermobility and ADHD association is pretty well documented. While it's true that people may start to show ADHD like symptoms

I've had to implement unit math recently for CalcuLaTeX [0] and it's given me a lot of appreciation for how difficult it actually is. I've got it almost completely working with SI units but I haven't thought through frac

I tutor middle/high school kids in math and CS. I make $35 an hour which is pretty good considering I'm a freshman in college and some of the students are pretty close to my age so it can be fun.

I never had actual diagnosable RSI, but I was on my way there I think. I really highly recommend split ergonomic keyboards though. They run quite expensive but are worth it IMO. At entry level there's the Kinesis Freestyle (~$100) but

Hey, that's me. I think Numi's more oriented towards a general calculator, whereas CalcuLaTeX is more for longer form problems or documents, although I know that at least a few people use it like a scratchpad. I'll definitely

I agree that e-ink ereaders are amazing. I had a Kindle for 4 years or so but surprisingly it broke. Nowadays I've got a Kobo which is much nicer though.

I might try to take that approach in the future. Usually when I get bored of whatever book I'm reading I just queue up a video game though. Oathbringer is really great.

The main export of the Rust/WASM library is just a function which outputs LaTeX; it should be pretty doable to add a button to the website which does what you're asking. I think I'll just add a checkbox to set whether it actu

Weird units are cool. I was pretty mindblown when I realized that radians are basically meters/meters and steradians are meters^2/meters^2
