Since it seems to be a common misconception, I'd just like to point out that "Adblock" and "Adblock Plus" are two different extensions made by different people.

Although the original code was published by the NSA, RedHat and several other groups and companies have been involved in SELinux development over the past 12+ years. The paranoia of having a backdoor in SELinux (very unlikely) has probably

Almost nothing in most cases, but it depends on what you're doing. Take a look at the benchmarks for lxc. http://lxc.sourceforge.net/index.php/about/kernel-namespaces... Postgres is a beast tho (albeit a cute and friendly beast), it's pro

On my list of things to do: compare docker to zerovm to libvirt to ??? and figure out which one works will work best with rdma (infiniband) networks. Combined with nixos (maybe), this could work wonders for hpc data provenance.

In my side project of trying to understand Paxos (and variations thereof) on an intuitive level, I came across this piece which describes how Mr. Lamport tried to instill enthusiasm in his students by dressing up as Mr. Jones to describe th

I work in an environment where radios and cameras of any kind aren't allowed (not an unreasonable policy for where I work). So, I'll be stuck with the fobs for a bit. The trend of everything moving towards smartphones limits my options. How

I already have 4 different fobs on my keychain (not counting my YubiKey for LastPass). I'm not quite sure what I'll do when every website has one and I'll need 20 of them. It also doesn't help that they're all unlabeled. Edit: I just realiz

But what about the dollar?! (a reference to the rest of this short story) This entire book is an amazing read that I recommend to anyone. You can usually find it for less than $5 at a used bookstore.

So why is the title of your post "CDN vs S3"? Shouldn't it be something like "Don't use S3 as a CDN"? To be honest, your post feels like spam for MaxCDN.

Nice talk, but I think I was basically trying to say that Ceph really shines when you compare it to Lustre and PanFS. It's not a clear winner when you compare it to GlusterFS because the original design wasn't intended to replace GlusterF

I still see Ceph as competition to supercomputer filesystems and not really as competition to GlusterFS. For example, the design of it directly attacks the problem of centralized metadata (especially useful after the DARPA project to bring
