The nautical mile is a sensible unit for anyone trying to navigate with charts (which, in the worst case, could happen to pilots). Feet, on the other hand, are nonsense.

It was probably leaking refc binaries, see for example https://ferd.github.io/recon/recon.html#bin_leak-1 . Running the function (which probably parses large binaries) in a separate process ensures that it's proper

webOS had something called "Synergy" which was essentially a set of databases/schemas/services to provide a unified view on things. I don't fully remember whether this was actually supported, but an app like Faceboo

Ha, I did a (much smaller) project combining Lilypond and Scribus as well. My patch for this ( https://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=14723 ) is still stuck in limbo, doesn't look like they are going to apply it any time s

The Geforce 4 MX was a rip-off, trying to extract money from people who didn't know better. It lacked shaders entirely, so it was, feature-wise, on the same level as the first GF from 1999.

Steam for Mac (and HL2 for Mac as well) only came out in 2010. In 2004, you're also still very much in the PowerPC era, so you wouldn't have been able to play the game on a Mac without some serious emulation effort.

The Radeon cards came with coupons for HL2 a while before the game was released. My brother bought one from someone in school, there was quite a bit of trading going on :)

The GeForce 4 MX (first in the list) was a rebranded GeForce 2, so just T&L and no shaders. The "real" GeForce 4 (second in the list) supported shaders just fine, as did the GeForce 3, so it got the pretty water.

I started using it (about 4 or 5 years ago, I think) mostly because I really don't like tearing. I never got a completely tearing-free Xorg setup working for me.

Sway is a window manager, not a DE. The right thing to compare it to is Mutter. I also use sway, but quite a few of my applications are from Gnome (like evince, nautilus, gnome-calendar, fractal...).

If you just mindlessly fill everything with bricks and concrete, you likely need to make the lower walls thicker than the upper ones to support the weight... The whole engineering process can be done without ever looking at the budget as lo

Actually, another possible convention is "I don't care about the base", as in O(n log n) or in general in most of Asymptotic Analysis. This becomes fun when people start talking about O(2^(log n)) where the chosen base become

Well, first doing `find > .my-index` and then measuring `cat .my-index` would give you even better results... I don't find it noteworthy that reading from an index is faster than actually recursively walking the filesystem.
