Thank you for your comment, perhaps I was too harsh. Must be shell-shock from other commercial/open-source products. onus is a formal word for responsibility or obligation. Until recently, the authors only had a responsibility to their

So you would prefer an Utopia where nobody pays for other people's work but they still make it available for free and work on it forever? From the news it didn't seem like they are abandoning it.

Then it sure is nice that HN shows (bloomberg.com) in there. Bloomberg can get hits by showing conflicting views or just about anything. I suggest HN be changed to show opinion sections of major sites differently.

I didn't claim it's trivial or not. The message itself is confusing. There are 3 concerns here: beta, Stripe, countries and it's no clear how they inter-relate from the blog posts. As far as I can tell now, no-beta==Stripe Co

Thanks. The blog post could be edited a bit then. It says: > GitHub Sponsors is now out of beta and generally available to developers with bank accounts in 30 countries and growing. and the link points to https://help.github.c

I don't understand. They offer: Stripe Connect, ACH transfer, or wire transfer. Only Stripe Connect (whatever that is) seems to have a list of countries. Wire transfer should work all over the place.

I agree with your remarks. There certainly are sites out there in need of dynamic behaviour. But that long tail has a lot of restaurant websites and such where nothing is really needed.

I don't remember it this way at all. Git always had the halo of the tool kernel devs use, written by Linus himself. There was no escaping this. Mercurial slowness was never a problem for me, and these were the times before SSD! It prob

Yes, and that in absolute terms people in Romania pay more than people in the US. A comparable price in US would probably be closer to $15. I don't know how to compute this with some public purchasing power parity numbers but I would b
