I stumbled upon a very similar editor hosted on xkcd.com when searching for the list of most common words, which Randall used for Up Goer Five and Thing Explainer: https://xkcd.com/simplewriter/

Yes, I understand the general use of dev dependencies. However, in this case, 'pdfjs-dist' must be in the build output anyway. So, what is the benefit of including it indirectly?

What is the benefit of importing a dependency only as devDependency and including it like this in the build? Why not just declare a normal dependency?

Who's water? Planting trees usually helps to prevent droughts because they keep water in the local climate with effects like shading the ground and containing rainwater (instead of the rain just washing down the next river). I'm t

The thing about greenhouse gases is: if we stop emitting them today they will still cause problems for decades. With nuclear waste the time scale is vastly different. For that we need to be able to plan for milennia.

Why are they not used yet? Are they safe to operate? Are they commercially viable? There are many promises for technical solutions. Yet, none of them are actually used today for a myriad of reasons.

Yes, you can certainly be both. Climate change is an immediate existential threat as you say yourself. Seeing nuclear as the solution to that threat is very shortsighted IMHO. Many commenters mention the threat of accidents like Chernobyl o

I did not recently consider moving to the US but I can relate my story about having moved from the Netherlands to Germany last year. My wife and I made the move from Amsterdam to Berlin. Both of us are working full-time and we have a daught

I don't think helmets are worn for aerodynamics. IIRC professional race cyclists only started wearing helmets after in 2003 when they became mandatory. If there had been any advantage in aerodynamics the athletes would have voluntarily

I think you read the chart wrong. At least you write "around the same or more" when it is much more. The amount the source lists for "government/compulsory" spending is $9054. That is a quarter more than the _total_

Frankly, I would find it much easier to write the naive C version than this "moderately" optimized Python version in the article although I am much more familiar with Python than with C.

The obvious catch is that the compiled binary is not portable. You need to compile and deploy for each platform separately. You don't need to worry about platforms at all when deploying/sharing pure Python modules.

That is yet another difference, indeed: Primary school is only until grade 4 in most states, i.e. from around 6 to 10 years old. To be honest, I don't know if and how much homework is assigned in primary school. I imagine that this als

As I read it, the point was not about the wrong pronoun but about the fact that the suite is developed by one person and not a large team and that the burden of benchmarking Linux performance should maybe not rest on one person alone.
