This is how the strtol function in the standard C library works. Here's a test program: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> /* strtol, strtod */ /* Convert string to long and return true if successful. */

Instead of the complex chaining mechanism I used before, the Fexl meta-parser is now like this: Parse the source text, returning (pair ok; pair exp; symbols). ok is true if the source is well-formed, i.e. no syntax errors. If ok is true, ex

The resolve function now looks up symbols dynamically in the Fexl library linked with the executable. Any function named "type_X" is now automatically available as a function "X" in Fexl. Refactored the code so it's cleaner, faster, smalle

This is a complete rewrite, and it now has the beginnings of a module system based on meta-parsing (i.e. "parse" is now a combinator in the system). Still plenty of TODOs, but it's moving forward.

Yes, I've been using Ubuntu exclusively on the desktop for about 6 years now. I recently bought a new laptop (from LinuxCertified.com) and tried out 11.10 (Unity) for the first time. At first I liked it pretty well, but a few days later r

Yes, thanks for clarifying. I see that now. I've been through your demo a few times in Chromium, and I've been poking around and looking at the "Cookies and Other Data" values. So yes, I see now that my actual private key is in "Local St

Nice, I checked that out. It looks like you store the encrypted private key in session storage (i.e. a glorified cookie). My main concern would be how to back up that private key. As a technically savvy user, I shouldn't have a problem w

Clever concept, and it really shows off a lot of shell techniques in one place. The self-modifying aspect is fun to study (e.g. external-add, ext_insert), and the meta functions are interesting too (e.g. require). I may find this useful s

Thanks, but I already know what fork does. My point is that "fork" is precisely how one spawns a new process, and there is no other way to do so.

I have noticed a popular aversion to "fork", and I don't quite understand it. It uses the "copy on write" technique, and it seems very fast in my benchmarks. For example, I have a benchmark where I can spawn 1000 or more processes right f

It might not work with an int, but I'm virtually certain it works with a long int. I say that because I had to research whether I could use a long value as both a reference count when a struct was in use, and a free list pointer when a str
