This re-routing around a genuine problem is sad to me. I think it is the unstated acceptance that the 'new normal' is in fact here to stay.

Absolutely. How do career, peer recognition, and intellectual freedom stack up against up against grants and tenure? If you are honestly interested in areas that off-trend, would you be able to get anywhere? I think the answer is no. You

I don't mind being downvoted, but it is the reality. What incentives are there for good science to become known to all? There are billions of incentives that say the opposite. I think some people believe in 'science' like

If some scientists did complete some work comparable to the works "Darwin, Einstein, or Galileo" do you think this would reach everyday folk? Or would industry monetise said discovery, and that might best be done by withholding i

That graphic is interesting to me, as it illustrates what the view is like at the 3-letter-agencies control centers, who have been slurping up our data for years.

If your views are aligned with what the echo chamber agrees with, you will be able to reply. If you do not get the echo chamber's approval, you are downvoted and cannot reply. What's the conspiracy?! Its a fact. But yes - it rea

How do I feed myself? I don't know what you mean. Government's goal is to implement whatever governance is decided to be best to manage people. You say a mob stormed congress. I saw a dramatic event, that justifies a lot of auth

Its not a spam filter. I am not posting too fast in trying to reply to responses. The reason I am blocked is because my opinions are not popular and they are downvoted. This is the issue: HN is an echo chamber. Those who can downvote (thos

What would you think if I said to you that there is a conspiracy so broad and deeply embedded that a small group is able to take a set co-ordinated actions, across the planet, with every country taking part that constrain individuals to the

To me, it was always the case. I think TV was set up to be the most powerful propaganda delivery mechanism. That's pretty clear, when you look at how the BBC was created. But - for more info, so that you can confirm this is explicitl

Thanks for your comment. Right - but I really do want comments. This site and many many others have write access and manage. If a self-hosted solution ever caused me issues on account of spam etc, I'd review the situation.

I'd love to hear about self-hosted alternatives, especially ones where you can have a comments section. There are plugins in Wordpress that do comments (not brilliantly), but alternatives seem quite complex. It would be great to be a
