The car manufacturers always make their speedometers show a little bit too much (like 10%) to make sure they never show too little (or they would get sued badly and get their cars taken of the streets). We _accept_ that the car companies do

I was on vacation on Spain with my girlfriend's family, who are from the US. They all had booked international roaming from T-Mobile US. Their speeds were so bad they couldn't even look up restaurants on Yelp. Meanwhile, I am on T

When I tried out Windows tabbed shell in the Insiders build I found myself using the web versions of Electron apps (e.g. Slack) way more than the apps. They can do everything the app can nowadays (including native notifications), and with t

The fact that OData calls itself not only RESTful, but literally "the best way to REST", while using requests like this: GET serviceRoot/People('russellwhyte')/Microsoft.OData.SampleService.Models.TripPin

Not sure what version you are using, but that is not how PowerShell does completion for me. If I type in `Get-Package` for example and hit tab, I get printed a grid of the possible completions. Then I keep typing until it's not ambiguo

It doesn't look like they put any thought into how to make this appeal to Windows devs. One would have expected support for using PowerShell for scripts. Instead, they use git bash (which is definitely less familiar to Windows devs tha

I like it. Nowadays CLIs got out of hand with verbs, every CLI assigns a very specific meaning to their verbs and it's not clear at all. Just look at kubectl: https://kubernetes.io/docs/reference/generated

I agree with everything you said, except "JavaScript got it in 2015". JavaScript had first-class functions since its inception in 1995 before any of Java or C#, and methods like `array.map()`/`filter()` etc since ES5.1 in 201

Sourcegraph engineer here - that's the goal of the Sourcegraph extension API, being generic and code-host agnostic. One Sourcegraph extension can provide the same features on any code host (Gitlab, GitHub, Bitbucket, ...)

It's not supposed to tell you what it looks like. Why is it a goal to be able to tell exactly what something looks like from reading the markup?

Yeah this seems weird to me. If your API schema is not introspectable, where do your API clients come from? They don't grow on trees. I guess it's easy to cheat and just use an existing client, but that just shows that this is not

I love it when articles just put statements out like "This syntax would be much better, wouldn't it?" and then just assume the answer is obviously yes and don't find the need to provide any arguments for that. I disagree

I hope this will make URLs more transparent and _easier_ to "hack", not the opposite. URLs and deep linking is what makes the web great. If this means making that feature of the web accessible to everyone, that's awesome. If

This would still mean that (the deeper the dependency tree) updates take longer to trickle down to your project, and to spread across the whole ecosystem. Not everyone will have these tools set up, and they will still cause a delay since it

A library API is bound to a specific language/runtime. But every language out there can speak JSON. Language servers are mostly written in the language they are for, because that language already has the compiler APIs. The editor is of
